About Me

I am Raphael Okinyi Orwa, a Kenyan citizen aged 51 years old. I am the 8th born in a family of 15 (7 girls and 8 boys). I was brought up in a humble background with lots of life challenges pertaining to access to basic needs and education. Both my parents were small - scale commercial farmers. I used to help my parents in the farm as this was the source of livelihood for the family.

I went through my education in Government funded schools and completed Primary School and joined high school, upon completion in 1989, I did not proceed to college but opted to venture into mixed farming and animal husbandry at a very small scale. This is the business that I have done to date.

I got married, in 1992 and we have been blessed with 10 children (7 boys and 3 girls). We are both doing the mixed, organic and low - external input, sustainable agricultural practice in our family farm in Nyamanga village, Homa Bay County.

I like watching football matches and visiting friends.

My Business

I started mixed farming business in 1992, I have established a rich agricultural farm in which I grow maize, sourghum, beans, cassava, vegetables like' kale, spinach, tomatoes and onions in a small-scale for commercial purpose. My family are depending on the farm for the family food needs.

I am supplying the local school with vegetables and tomatoes on a weekly basis. There's a growing need of food in this locality and my farm is the option. I am focusing on the farm and introducing dairy cattle for milk production and selling to the local residents. I am depending on a soft loaning platform of ZIDISHA to help me achieve my ambition.

I am making approximately KES 700 on a daily basis from the farm sales. This amount will grow into KES 1,000 with the loaning from ZIDISHA that will hep me to buy seedlings in time and planting. I am expecting a cooperation and support from my lenders and in return, I promise an on time repayment.

Loan Proposal

I am seeking a loan of KES 9,526to enable me purchase the following items;
-Irrigation horse pipes =US$40
-Seedlings = US$30
-Pesticides and insecticides =US$10
-Fertilizers =US$10

The ZIDISHA loan will enable me to expand on my business as well as creating employment to unemployed youths in my village. With improved and quality production of indigenous tree seedlings. my business will rapidly grow.

Repaying the loan will be easy for me because in the same piece of land, I plant tomatoes and onions which I harvest and sell to get surplus income. The income from the business will support the education of the 4 grandchildren I am living after the death of their parents. Thanks alot to ZIDISHA lenders for loaning.

      Daniel, if Raphael needs to extend the duration pls advise him to do so in small steps. That is, go from 1 month, to maybe 3 months. It is very annoying for us lenders when a borrow extends the loan from 3 months to 5 years in one go. It suggests they weren't really serious about paying the loan of and always intended to do this.
