About Me

My name is ASARE Baffour. I was born in a small village called Masu, just about five kilometers away from Dormaa Ahenkro in the Brong- Ahafo region of Ghana. We were six in our family. I am the third born. My parents were both poultry farmers but my father passed away after the sixth child was born by then I was at the Junior High School. I was the only person to take charge of the poultry house to the rest of the family alive and my junior brothers had to rely on me to go school . I managed to complete Senior High in Dormaa Senior High School. From there I made my mind up not to continue with formal Education any longer but to start something that can keep me and my family. I went into apprenticeship to learn wielding. It took me only two years to graduate from there and I built my on shop. With some few Ghana CEDI's from the poultry house I was able to acquire a loan from one of the local banks, bought my tools and started business. People in Dormaa are mainly farmers except that the nearby villages grow cash crops like cocoa and cashew. Previously the youth would travel to neighbouring countries to look for jobs but these days, after school, most of them would start business or go into poultry farming,to produce eggs and sell to the larger market. Polygamy is still practiced by the people. I have two boys and they all want to be laboratory technician's. I supervise the poultry house as my pastime and I like reading a lot and browsing the Internet.

My Business

I wield things. Anything. Made from steel and other materials are wielded in my shop. Some of them are door gates, worn rsted car bodies, cracked metals in homes and many others. I am fortunate to find myself in the municipality where there are a lot of activities that goes on. Building s, most especially government funded projects and individual building projects are all taking place. These days because of thieves, most of the new buildings in town are all made up of iron gates. Those that are weak come to repairs or for complete replacement. Even though I have five apprenticeship , still the work load is too much to bear especially on Tuesdays which is the marked day for the people of Dormaa Ahenkro. I chose this kind of job because I saw that many of the youth do not go into that business because they thought that job is for the those who have not acquired any form of formal education and I saw that to be wrong and wanted to prove it. And indeed because of the way I am always at work and the kind of projects I am doing in Town, the youth now are motivated by it to learn. I make sales of about gh200 a day and even more on Tuesdays. I use part of the profit I make to pay school fees, buy food to feed the family and the remainder goes back into my business. I buy plates and brass for my job.

Loan Proposal

I will buy the following items: brass $40, iron plates $50.these are basically the items I will buy to aid my business to improve. The cost of plates for building gates are costly and if these items are bought it will enable me to complete the all the jobs that has been assigned to me in the municipality. This will let my customers to be releaved, by getting their job done in time. I hope to increase my profit to about 75% if thaes items are bought.
