About Me

I was born and brought up in the rural setup, I did my primary education, passed and got admitted to a nearby secondary school.
When the time came to start my secondary school, there was no fees to proceed to school. This forced me to stay at home for one term, has my dad was looking for school fee in vain.He later got some money which enabled me to join high school in second term though this did not last for long as I was forced to drop out of school again after year two of my high school.
I stayed out of school for more than three years due to lack of fees ,unfortunately enough an uncle offered to assist pay fee for the remaining two years of my high school. After high school, there was no money to proceed to college.I had to think of ways of generating some cash to take me through college.I started doing some manual jobs like doing shamba tasks like weeding and harvesting crops for people for cash, which I saved for over two years .My village is a semi-arid area and we had difficulty in accessing water,I bought a donkey and a cart and jerricans from my savings,I would ride my cart to the nearest river which was ten kilometers away, fetch water and sell to the locals.
After, one and half year, I saved enough to start a computers repair certificate course ,later on I got a job and saved again for a year, then I enrolled for a Diploma course in Information Technology.I worked for two years then I lost my job due company restructuring, this prompted me to think deeply about venturing into farming. This is when I started free range poultry farming rearing local breed.
So far, I have a small family of three, myself, my spouse and a young man of 2years old,he is still young but, he has a liking for farming too, as he helps me with the feeding the chicks.
I enjoy swimming, cycling and I normally take an evening walk with my family.

My Business

I do a small scale poultry farming, and I do sell eggs and chicks, there is a ready market for eggs at a local SACCO, that specifically assist poultry farmers as the buy these eggs and pay at month end.I sell chicks at the local market.
Starting poultry farming did not require so much capital to start and managing the local breed is not expensive as I do free range farming and I do buy feeds with occasional vaccination for the birds.I spent an average of USD 35 monthly to cater for the feeds, vaccines and transport and make an average of USD 110 net profit. So far, I have used the proceed to acquire small chicks from the SACCO, I have built a small house and I have enrolled the young man in a day care.

Loan Proposal

I intend to build a poultry house which can house 200 birds, currently I do not have a house for the birds, my kitchen is shared with the birds.,the posts ,nails, timber ,Iron sheets and labour will cost me USD 300. This will provide a healthy environment for the birds and at the same time get some peace from the noise and the smell of birds droppings in the kitchen. I expect to icrease my profit to USD 200.
