My name is Nixon Kigen from Kiamunyi- outskirts of Nakuru town in Nakuru county. I am 26 years old and married with one kid.
Professionally I am an engineer and studied a diploma course in mechanical engineering- plant option from Rift valley institute of science and technology and currently working with Gilani supermarket part time.
I am also a farmer and I spend most of my free time managing our small farm that is our major source of income and food. My wife also help selling the fresh produce in a grocery shop within our residence.
We have a small farm where we cultivate mostly vegetables especially tomatoes, kales and cabbages. It is our major source of income and food for the family. We sell them both on wholesale and retail. The main customers are the grocery owners within the estate and the neighboring estates.
Farming has sustained us for 3 years now even before I got the job and I am planning to improve everyday. Currently I am planning to establish a temporary green house especially for tomatoes and raising vegetable seedlings.
To save on losses associated with weather on vegetables that are sensitive such as tomatoes, i am planning to construct a temporary green house to help curb this problem.
Tomatoes are high value crops and most reports suggest that the crop does very well in our region. These greenhouse will also be useful in establishing special nurseries for kales, cabbages and trees especially during the dry season.
I will therefore use the loan together with my savings to buy materials and hire local artisans who are currently doing the same in the village
