My name is Mrs Emmy Kimetto, I am married and have daughters to whom 2 are in the university, 2 in secondary school and the young one is in Nursery school. I am a housewife doing mixed farming and also doing milk business which earns me a living and also pays my daughters' school fees.
I did farming for a long time i.e planting maize & beans and also doing dairy farming, it is rewarding but the fact that we are living in Rongai where sometimes we experience a long drought thus causing loses especially to the plants. Due to this I thought deeply of something that can sustain my family and my children's' education thus I started milk business.
Despite the fact that I was selling my milk which was around 20 litres per day, I thought of buying more from my neighbors so that I could increase my income through the profit I was making. I started a Milk shop in Salgaa trading centre where I used to sell milk to the customers at Ksh. 45 per litre and I buy the same at Ksh. 30 thus making a profit of Ksh. 15 per litre.
This has seen me pay school fees for my two daughters who are now in the university.
I chose this business because milk is an essential commodity and is needed daily therefore I cannot miss to sell. Although during these months i.e Jan, Feb and early March we are experiencing drought thus the milk production is at a lower level.
With the loan that I will be given I will use to buy another milk container that is costing Ksh. 5,000 and the rest I will boost my business by buying more milk from my neighbors. I have three containers i.e 50litre but I need a 25Litre to use it for my milk. These containers are good for keeping milk even if it stays for long hours unlike the plastic containers which I normally use for my own milk.
