About Me

I am a high school graduate from Nyandarua County in Central province in Kenya. I am a father of three and I am a farmer. I am a small scale farmer from Nakuru County and i mostly major in crop production and poultry farming. I grow maize and beans mostly and rear layers. I practice modern farming so as to increase the yield in my land and make ends meet as well as give my children the best life I can. I started poultry farming three years back and have faced many challenges such as lack of capital to expand my business and disease outbreak that almost wiped my entire stock. Despite the hardships i have prevailed and I can attest that currently I have 20 layers and I want to grow the number to 100 within the next three months to come. The people in my area are of mixed tribes mostly Kikuyus and Maasai with a few Kalenjins and Kisiis. The people are predominantly farmers and they grow maize and beans though the ones who are well up grow wheat since it is capital intensive.
My daughter who is the firstborn wants to be a nurse when she completes her education while my son who is the second born wants to be an engineer. My third child is 4 years old and started school a few months back.
I like reading inspirational books when I am passing time and also learning new things so as to better myself.
Despite the hard times we are experiencing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are progressing quite smoothly with my first daughter having finished high school now doing sales business while my second born son awaiting financial assistance so as to join Karatina University for a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree course. My last born daughter is now in grade four.

My Business

Poultry farming has been a lucrative business venture since i started it 3 years back despite the challenges. I has been rearing layers which fetch me enough money to support my family as well as pay for my children school fees. Besides poultry I grow maize and beans which I sell the surplus since this is our stable food. The demand for eggs is very high local within my area and also in major towns as those rearing poultry cannot meet the market need. I wish to increase the number of my chicken so as to increase revenue and better myself.
I chose poultry farming because it is easy to start and the returns are promising if you are serious about the business. The market is also readily available and poultry rearing requires a small space to keep your chicken.
Typical costs in my business is poultry feeds and medication since for you to have layer that lay eggs consistently you must feed them well. Disease outbreaks that threaten to wipe almost the entire stock make one incur additional cost especially through vaccination in order to prevent your stock from dying.
the money i get from my business is mostly used to pay for school fees, buying foodstuff, clothing and for the general upkeep of my family. The remaining is ploughed back to the business in order to expand and increase the returns from my business.
This being my third loan application , I am pleased to inform my lenders that I was able to pay for my children's education and now I want to move to another level by purchasing a motorbike. The motorbike will greatly assist me to expand my business in several ways including transporting eggs to the market, feeds to the farm as well as diversifying the business. I want to include cereals business where a motorbike is very necessary and convenient in the farms.
I am delighted to inform my lenders that i have successfully sustained my family from your generous assistance. Most important the children have completed their high school studies without any financial problems.
The motorbike business was however not successful but fortunately I am now engaged as a casual employee with Kenya Forest Service in maintaining a forest electric fence and earn six hundred shillings for every day worked.
Currently, I am seeking financial assistance to enable my son get admitted to Karatina University and commence with studies.

Loan Proposal

I want to purchase a secondhand motorcycle, the motorbike costs about 500 dollars. the motorcycle will help me transport farm produce from the farms to the market. This will increase my profit since I will be able to deliver goods in good time and meet the consumer demand. The motorbike can also be hired when other farmers need to transport farm produce during harvest when there is bump harvest.

Due to challenges faced in transporting farm produce to the market, I decided to make a significant shift towards dairy goat farming and have found it to be highly beneficial. The difficulties in transporting the produce to the market, including issues with road infrastructure and transportation costs, prompted me to explore alternative agricultural practices. Dairy goat farming has emerged as a profitable and sustainable option offering numerous advantages. It allows me as a farmer to produce milk products locally, reducing transportation needs and costs. Moreover, dairy goat farming requires less space compared to traditional farming, making it suitable for small-scale farms. Additionally, I consider dairy goat farming as a more environmentally friendly alternative as goats have a smaller carbon footprint compared to larger livestock. The shift to dairy goat farming has proven to be a promising solution for me and other farmers to overcome transportation challenges while reaping the benefits of a profitable and sustainable agricultural practice.

I used the loan I acquired to buy mesh wire for my chicken run. This has enabled me to increase the security of my chicken hence the number of chicken has grown steadily. I have also constructed a laying boxes hence the eggs collection has been improved. My daily collection for eggs has doubled. This has also helped meet the family nutrition needs.
