About Me

I am Margaret Nyambura, a cheerful and enthusiastic mother of one who is trained in Hospitality (food & beverage) from a local college. I hail from a small town near Makuyu in Murang'a county. At 23 year old I have been lucky enough to get a loving partner and a wonderful baby boy. I was previously employed as a Food and Beverage Service attendant a nice hotel in the area. However, after getting pregnant in late 2022, I was forced to leave the job which was okay at first but turned rough very fast after my partner got laid off from thier job. Now my boy is 18 months old and so it has become easier to move around. A few months ago I decided to begin a small business that could supplement income in the house. It hasn't been easy especially owing to the current situation in our country. The good thing is that it's now becoming easier to travel around because the baby is starting to walk now so I have also been looking for new opportunities and I want to get into them to the maximum.

My Business

I supply seasonal fruits (e.g. mangoes) and dry cereals to local households and mostly Mwea pishori rice which I get from wholesalers in Mwea town. I get help from my brother who is a matatu conductor plying the route, to transport incoming supplies at a favorable cost. I have been selling these cereals from door to door, shop to shop and through recommendations.
I feel it's time to move to the next step. So I am want to set up a shop where all buyers will be able to reach me at anytime of the day.

Project Proposal

To begin with, setting up the shop is critical. Therefore, acquiring suitable premises and a business permit is top on my plan. Secondly I will purchase additional supplies which, initially, will include Pishori rice and the Fruit in current season. I would choose to let demand trend to dictate the other types of grains to include.
Depending on how much capital will remain available, I will invest in some raised wooden platforms for storing the grain as well as stock cards to aid in tracking inventory. If there's still funds left I will print flyers to advertise the business in the local apartments and homes.
