About Me

My name is James Kiragu Thuo ID № 9008143. I was born on 1st January 1968 in Kandutura village Visoi location, Rongai District of Nakuru County. I went to Kandutura primary school between 1976 and 1985 and later joined St Columbus High school in Nakuru town for my secondary education between 1986 and 1989. I did not proceed beyond secondary school since my parents could not afford to send me to college but I engaged myself as an apprentice mason. I have since learnt masonry well and often gets contracted to construct houses, schools and other social amenities. I am legally married to one wife and have been blessed with 3 children; 1 boy and 2 girls.
Currently, I live with my family on a six acre piece of land at Kandutura village plot number 390 at a place called Makanisani next to ACK church.

My Business

Other than masonry, I am also involved with farming. On my 6 acre piece of land, 4 acres are under maize and beans while one is under tomatoes. The remaining 1 acre is used for dairy farming. I have 3 cows and 5 goats. This year, I have already harvested 15 bags of beans (current rate of Ksh 4500 per 90kg bag). This translates to Ksh 67,500. I am expecting to harvest about 80 bags of maize (current rate of Ksh 3,200 per 90kg bag). This would translate to Ksh 256,000. Grand total income from beans and beans comes to Ksh 323,500. The cost of inputs and labour is approximately Ksh 40,000 leaving me with Ksh 283,500 for a period of 8 months. The cost of producing tomatoes is approximately Ksh 100,000 against an output of Ksh 250,000 per acre. This takes about three months. I only plant one time per year. Therefore, my annual income is Ksh 333,500 which is approximately Ksh 27,800 per month.

Loan Proposal

My main intention is to turn to irrigation based agriculture. To achieve this, I intend to use Ksh 60,000 to dig a well that will give me water throughout the year; especially so in January to March as this is the driest period of the year. Ksh 40,000 will be used to purchase a Friesian cow. Milk is really fetching a lot of money. The remaining Ksh 14,000 will be used to prepare the land for planting. This kind of farming is crucial since I will be able to grow whatever I desire at any time of the year regardless of the climatic condition. I hope to improve my income by as much as 100%.

Hello James. I am impressed by your farming activities on a 6 acre piece of land...I come from a community where we own less than an acre of land..Keep it up..I deal in handcrafts to earn a living..

The dry season has just come to an end. I have been forced to replant afresh after the ones that I had planted earlier dried up. This has consequently costed me dearly since it was unexpected. The initial ploughing and planting costed me an approximate Ksh 50,000 for the maize and beans and a further Ksh 30,000 for the tomatoes. The tomatoes are doing well since I have been irrigating them, but the maize and beans have to be replanted with the ploughing being repeated all over again. I hope that the lenders will understand and bear with me.

Congratulations on getting your loan. As a former farm boy, myself, I know how important irrigation can be for success in farming. I applaud your hard work and initiative to better you and your familys situation. Best wishes for great success.

    Hi James,

We are very saddened to hear about what's happened there, but glad to hear that you and your family are safe. Please know that there are many like me who are not religious that have helped to fund your loan. We believe that there is good and evil in the world, but the distinction between the two is not defined by religious beliefs. Many atrocities both historical and present-day have been justified by religion, that when viewed from a secular perspective are revealed to be quite evil.

On the other hand, many like me are kind to strangers like you because we want to help make this world a better place, and not because of any religious or political beliefs. If we all paid forward the kindness shown to us by others, we could make this world a more hopeful place indeed.

Thank you so much for keeping us up to date on how you're doing; I read your entries with great interest and I'm happy to see that you're prospering.

    Regards,

    Mike

    Hi Everyone,
As we were seated with my wife thinking of what we were going to write to you, my wife made a very curious observation. She asked why the world has different kinds of people; here we were trying to ask people whom we have never met to fund our project, a project that we expect to profoundly change our lives, and at the same time mourning the killing of our country men and women by people whose ideologies we don't even understand. I told her that that is the nature of God. Those helping us are good people meant to touch our lives positively; they are gifts from God and we ought to cherish and honour them. Those killing us are a lesson as to the extent of human rot in the society. We ought reciprocate good with good and pray that the bad people will come back to their senses and stop the bad way. Goodness will triumph over evil.
    Make this a peaceful day.

    Hi Lenders,
Despite the recent occurrence of terrorist attack in our country where close to 100 people lost their lives, I feel upbeat because of increased funding for my loan. I call it a silver lining. The bids are an array of hope in all the gloom hanging all over Kenya. You really are making my day, God bless you.
My bids close on 25th, which is two days from now. I am optimistic that the remaining 28% will be funded by the close of 25th.

    Hi Lenders,
I have made an adjustment on the interest on my loan. This is because I have come across a Freisian cow that appears to be a good investment. The cow goes for Ksh 50000 and gives 30 litres of milk daily. One litre of milk goes for Ksh 55 which translates to Ksh 1650 per day. Against all odds, I will recoup my investment in 2 months and then proceed to reap the profit thereafter. This, dear lenders, is an opportunity worth my while. Kindly fund me so that I don't miss out on this golden chance.
    Gods blessings

    Hi Lenders,
The bids for my loan are increasing, albeit at a slow pace. I am hoping and praying that I get enough bids for my loan before the end of the bidding period.
Thank you for your bids and may God continue blessing you.

    Hi Lenders,
The bidding for my loan closes on 25th September. This is actually putting a lot of anxiety on me. I believe my project is very viable and could bring me a lot of money to repay my loan and develop myself further. I am kindly asking you to fund me. I have taken a previous loan and repaid it very well and now with the extra income that will come with growing food throughout the year, as a result of doing irrigation, my life will change for the better.
    May God bless you all.
    Thank you.

The first time that I heard about Zidisha, I didn't believe it. It was introduced to me by Mr James Wainaina and it appeared so unreal and unbelievable that people from far away as Europe and America can actually lend me money with a smaller interest than my personal bank. Then I applied my first loan, got the money and bought a small diesel water pump. I started pumping water from a stream nearby and made good money. I have since cleared my first loan and have made another loan application. My life is changing. I can easily afford to plan ahead with confidence since Zidisha is my companion and the world is helping me through the networks created by Zidisha. What else would I ask God for. This is the ultimate blessing that anybody can get. I have you, lenders to thank for and ask God to continue blessing you and ask borrowers to be faithful in fulfilling the commitments made; that is repaying the loans diligently.
    Thank you

      Hi James,
I'm very happy to be able to help you. I know that it's not a very large amount of money, but I hope that there will be more people who'll donate the money they can spare so we can raise the money you need.
I wish you all the best.

    Hi Lenders,
I finished repaying my loan and put up a new one yesterday. I managed this on a 100% on-time repayment rate. This I consider quite impressive, given various challenges in our agricultural sector. That is dependence on rain for agriculture. I intend to change this. The loan that I have applied for is going to be a life changer. I intend to dig up a well that will make me completely independent of rain as a source of water. This I hope, will improve my earnings to very great proportions which will consequently enable me to take service even bigger loans comfortably.
The confidence that you showed me in my first loan will be reciprocated and the God who gave me the strength and the determination will continue blessing the work of my hands.
    Thank you
    James Kiragu

My Kale and cabbages have been exhausted and currently I am in the process of putting up seedbeds for new ones. This is a process that usually takes approximately two months. I had an acre of Kale and an acre of Cabbages under cultivation and I have the intention of increasing this acreage to four acres; two for Kale and two for cabbages.
Let me also take this opportunity to sincerely convey my appreciation to all the lenders for your support and understanding. God bless you abundantly.
