I lived in Labone Accras a child. I attended various schools . And got a diploma in Business and Finance. Focus and determination was my key . I had interest to become a businessman ,I traded for some years in the family business. Certain factors made trading in goods and commodities very difficult. I saw potential in Agriculture after a friend involved in farming convinced me of its benefits.
Ghana is a real opportunity to thrive in all sectors of business. My oldest girl (10yrs) wants to be a doctor .My son(4yrs) a pilot and my youngest daughter (2yrs) an actress. For recreation I am involved in rugby. Currently I am a board memberfor the Greater Accra Rubgy Association. I also played/coached a club called Accra Sharks but since this year is no more active.
I run a small scale farm at Prampram. I discovered Biodynamic agriculture . And I came to a higher understanding of a much more productive method of agriculture. I decided I would no longer use chemicals in crop production.
Ghana has a very large market in its food requirements. Producing only about half its needs in vegetables, fruit and livestock. I wanted to produce a very high standard and quality of vegetable and livestock. At the same time being beneficial to my environment. And hopefully to network with other farmers to follow my methods.
Costs always go towards seeds depending on crop. Hiring tractor and contract workers to prepare land, clearing , weeding etc. Transportation to market. Revenue can reach 40-50% depending on crop and time of year.
Profits are mainly for reinvesting and expansion at this stage.
I wish to add a small Quail egg production to my activities. This will run aside the vegetable and fruit production . Quail are not a common production . But do have many benefits, than starting Rabbit or Grasscutter. The animals are cheaper to purchase as chicks. Many animals can be reared in a smaller area. The cost of feed is lower as the birds are very small in size in comparison to Chickens, Rabbit etc. It is much sort after by certain demographic. Health conscious people for the Quail eggs. Expats, restaraunts/individuals mainly indian and lebanese purchase in large quantities what is available. Being diverse is very important in any business.
A Quail chick can be purchased for Ghc 5($1). Cage construction can be from Ghc 150-200($30-50). I hope to start with just one cage and between 5-10 chicks. Production of products which are in demand but not common is where I wish to focus both crops and livestock.
