My name is Mosongo Marcarius. I was born in 1990 in a remote village in western kenya. Learning was a hard task to me and i had to do manual jobs inorder to sustain myself and pay my school fees.I finished high school back in 2008 and started farming on my fathers 2 acre farm. Initially i used to grow crops for home use then later on i started selling the surplus. later on i started growing tomatoes and onions for sale. i managed to raise enough money to install a green house. I managed to grow tomatoes and mantain them upto the flowering stage
Here the soil is fertile and the climate is condusive and i want to ensure that i get the most out of what i do inorder to ensure that my children grow up with a good education. I have always loved farming since i was a little kid and to me that is the best business to ever do.
I grow tomatoes and onions. Tomatoes and onions are in demand in every houseld around my area and can also be exported. I have a green house and here the tomatoes need great care from since when they are transplanted from the nursery, until they are harvested. I chose this kind of business because of my passion for farming and the low operating cost as compared to profits. Initially when i started out, the operating costs were high but later on after i installed the green house all i have to do is buy pesticides and fungicides. On a good harvest i can get around 15,000 kgs of tomatoes which i sell for around 50-100 kshs per kg(1dollar). the profits i get from this i use it to educated my little boy and i also save for expansion of my business. I am looking forward to putting up another green house after i harvest this batch of tomatoes.
I will use the loan to buy pesticides and fungicides for my tomatoes that are in the green house. I will use around 4,000 kshs($45 dollars) to buy pesticides for the first spray batch. this will help to keep my tomatoes free from diseases and insects as they are now past the flowering stage. i will also use the other $45 to buy the other insecticides and fungicides to spray before harvesting. the remaining will help me employ labor to harvest and transport the tomatoes to the market.
