About Me

I am a proud father of three kids the eldest having joined secondary school this year. He performed very well in National Primary Examinations and secured himself a place in National school-the best in the country.

I come from a humble background, the 3rd born in a family of 6 children. Our dad never took us to College because of financial constraints. I am a self starter and determined individual and so I managed to do some casual jobs and some hawking business around town and took myself to college where I pursued my Certificate in Sales & Marketing, did a Diploma in the same field and was pursuing my Bachelors in Business Administration when I couldn't afford the fee for myself and my kids at the same time.

So I had to dropout and concentrate in paying for my kids because my eldest son says he wants to pursue medicine while my 2nd born son wants to be a pilot. My last born is 5 yrs old and now in baby class.

I am an outgoing person, I like meeting and making new friends.

My Business

I do Instant photography-which means I take someone a photo and produces it within minutes(approx 2-5 mins) and they pay instantly. One photo 4x6 costs averagely USD 0.6
I am stationed in recreational parks where people go to have some rest during daytime. My biggest clientele are couples who frequent parks/gardens for recreational purposes. I approach them and request if they want a photo. Most of them agree and so within 2 minutes of taking them a photo, I print it and bring them the hard copy. In Kenya, as it is in most developing countries, people don't have cameras or tablets or handsets that have cameras so an instant photo is but like a miracle.
I chose this kind of business because of its liquidity ratio...you get returns immediately and also because I love photography. In high school for example, I was the school photographer. My uncle would lend me his camera, I would take students photos and then bring them hard copies when schools reopened the following term.
I basically use profits from my business to pay fees for my kids and as well re-invest into the business. I am planning to buy a new Epson printer because the one I have is old and prone to periodic breakdowns and also buy a new professional digital camera so that I can take my business to the next level

Loan Proposal

I will buy photo papers and ink for my Epson printer in Nairobi where they sell in wholesale price which means I will save alot of money.

1 pkt (100pcs ) photopaper costs approx $6 locally but in the Capital Nairobi where they sell in bulk, the same goes for around $3. I will be able to save an average of $3 per pkt which automatically means an increase in my profits.

My cost of producing a single photo will go down by 50% or thereabouts. This means it will be more easier for me to put food on the table for my family and also raise high school fees for my son which is $950 annually.

Hallo my lenders!! I hope this finds you well.

I deeply regret to inform you of my mum's ill health over the past few weeks and her subsequent death on 10th Nov. Her remains will be laid to rest on Wed 18th Nov 2015. She suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure for many years and her situation deteriorated further mid this year.

That explains my default in repayments over the last 2 weeks because taking care of her in her finals days was not only cumbersome but consuming alot of time and resources(money). I am however upbeat that all will go well as we prepare to inter her remains mid next week after which I will be able to make and catch up with my remittances.

I hope you will find it in your hearts to understand and bear with my situation for now.

    Thank you all in advance.

    RIP Mum

    Hi Lenders,

I have been quite busy over the last 1-2 weeks after I acquired my new machine. We have National Examinations for Secondary schools (KCSE) which are currently ongoing for those who are clearing their secondary education this year. Days before the final exams start, prayers are usually held in the various schools for the candidates. This is usually one of the events where we make a kill in photography because parents attend the prayers in the respective schools to pray for their children, wishing them success.

Fellow students also get an opportunity to take photos with the friends because the end of there staying together in school is coming to a close and so they take memorable photos for posterity.

You guys made my job not just easier but enjoyable as well.

    Many thanks indeed.

Thank you for funding my loan. I am grateful a new instant photo kit is on the way now...it will go a long way in improving my service delivery as compared to the old one I have which keeps breaking down more often.

I just finished repaying my loan and it is indeed interesting to be apart of Zidisha family.
Deep down in my heart I really feel grateful and I call the work Zidisha is doing 'service to humanity'
My instant photography business is doing great and what has perplexed me is that I am not struggling to repay the loan as used to be the case with other micro loans that I used to have in the past.

hi milan i have read your reply thanks but i still wonder why zidisha wants to deduct whole 7000 kshs from my third loan yet they had stated clearly and deducted initial 3000kshs which zidisha said its a one time deduction why do they have to keep changing regulations which someone has already accepted and signed initial agreement i believe this is not right. how do we apply for more loans if u keep changing like this it is not right at all.

      Bephine,

I hope this finds you well.

Please if you can follow the link below and read through. It has an insight into what is going on at Zidisha and answers your query.

I am however sending you detailed information via email right away.

Please let me know if your queries are all addressed after you read through this writeup.

      Thank you.

        Bephine,

I hope you take your time to understand carefully whatever I have posted above and what I have also sent you on email.

I just want to give you a good example...when I started out with Zidisha, the minimum loan was Kes 4506 and the membership fee was Kes 4000 deductible upfront.

Believe you me, I received a loan of Kes 506 and went ahead and repaid the entire Kes 4506 after which I now qualified for the next loan of Kes 9000.

So any serious focused person should not have a problem with the current arrangement that Zidisha has in as far as membership fees is concerned.

Do not hesitate to contact me for any further clarifications or queries you may have.

        Regards,
        Millan

Hi milan thnks for being my mentor am worried i have applied for third loan of 38000 yet zidisha says that i should agree to a deduction of 7000 and receive 31000 instead this is not right yet i had been deducted initial 3000 kshs. when i applied first loan. I guess this a mistake and if so someone smart and accurate should be assigned maintanace and running of zidisha website coz so many complains from people i know! This will discourage lenders! Am bephine

Hi Millan Kisali, thanks for being my volunteer mentor, there is a concern i wish to raise with you in order to get more light. I have applied for a loan of sh. 4,478 and in wanting to accept the fully funded loan there appears a dialogue box for me to agree that Ksh. 5,000 should be deducted from the same loan which means i wont be able to use the money for the intended purpose. Kindly may you explain to me whats happening.
    Calistus.

      Hello Calistus (and Millan)
I am volunteer.... I think you will need to contact [email protected] on this matter.....Because this is not your first loan, I expect the message was sent in error, and that the correct fee to be deducted is Ksh 259 ( US$2.25, being the 5% service fee).
The volunteer staff do not however work on weekends, so you may not get a response until next week.

      Good Luck.

        Thank you Calistus (and Roy).

Calistus, I agree with Roy so I am raising the same with the Zidisha team right away but feedback I guess until monday or tuesday next week. Thank you for your patience.

        Cheers and enjoy your weekend.

I am barely half way my 2nd loan and things are taking shape just as I had anticipated. It's unfortunate I lost my mum a week ago and we buried her remains last saturday but I have been able to service my loan upto date despite the huge spending involved in funeral and burial expenses.
Thank you guys for your support because the future looks bright and promising

Thank you elton15 and lamzwolf for your kind gesture towards me.
I am planning to buy raw materials i.e photopaper and ink in bulk and at wholesale rates which is going to make me save as much as 0.5$ per pack(100pcs). The loan is going to buy approximately 200 packets.
This is going to have a very positive net effect on my profits at the end of the day.
