About Me

Am married to Ann Wanjiru and have a 3yrs old daughter.we taught in a local private school but we decided i pull out to avoid conflict of interest and so i joined business.

My Business

I started my broiler chicken project at my rural area [Bahati].Having come from a humble background , i choose to bring change in our local village which is dominated by poverty and drug addiction. This is by job creation to the youth by employing them thus involving them meaningfully. These activity would at least engage them and lift their standard of lives. I had my chicken project.I started it all with a 100 Chick with total expenditure of ksh.26,500 and net profit of ksh,2120 after every 6.5 weeks having considered a 5% motality rate.Today am stocking 300chicks at total expenditure of ksh.69,200 and net profit of ksh.3,940 which have done well for my upkeep.Am therefor requesting for a ksh.30,000 loan which will help me stock up to 500 chicks expecting ksh.111,400 total expenditure and a net profit of ksh.10,500 and thus create employment for an extra person. As for the market its so promising as i sell my products to the same people who sells me the chicks. Finally thanks for setting your ears at the ground and making yourselves available to uplift the small enterprise.God bless you as you consider my application.

Loan Proposal

Planning is often said is half job done. This is what I have learn t embarked on translating my good idea into a concrete & viable business.
Thanks to all my lenders trough zidisha who have actually helped me realize my great potential in business management. This is by moving me from a small poultry enterprise to a large and more profitable one of dairy farming.
The mission of my farm is to improve and maintain quality of life for family members by maximizing milk production and bleeding. Being located at maii kumi (19km from Nakuru town ) the location is ideal since the climate is good for this activity. The business will again be expected to meet the high demands of the locals who will benefit from milk. The family on the other hand will benefit from milk, calves, and biogas and by- products (manure).
With all the assumptions being put into consideration I have bought a cow that is producing an average of 35 lt's of milk in a day. This translates to ksh 900 - 1200 per day. The average production cost is ksh 400 thus a profit ksh 500-800 per day. The challenge I am facing is that of a zero grazing unit do as to maintain clean and hygienic environment. This will help make the cow feel more comfortable thus higher milk production. It will also help in making it easy to tap the by-product for production of biogas. I have therefore designed a zero grazing unit that will cost me about ksh 45000 which am now appealing to Zidisha lenders to finance me.

Dear lenders, my name is Bayle and I am a Country Liaison Intern with Zidisha.

I wanted to take a moment to update you on the status of this loan. We have contacted Mr. Gatembe several times since the beginning of the year, working with him to create a payment plan that would enable him to pay the loan off. He has tried to reschedule in the past, but never finished the process. We spoke with him last month, when he said business had been bad but was getting better, and that he planned to pay the loan off by the end of the year. I have attempted contact with him again to see what his plans are for repaying, and will let you know when we hear back.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to communicate with Mr. Gatembe about his loan!

You earned that support by repaying your last loan after losing 80% of your chickens. It took an long time, but working an second job and using your savings made you repay the lenders trust.

Also, I really like your businessplan.

Hello, my name is Dan Cembrola, one of Zidisha’s Kenya Client Relationship Managers. I am currently visiting Zidisha borrowers in Nakuru and its outskirts.

Zidisha borrower Anthony Gatembe resides in Maili Kumi, a small town 18 kilometers north of Nakuru. It is at his new home here where he is starting his next business venture. His previous endeavor, a poultry farm ran into a harrowing obstacle when 80% of his chickens contracted Newcastle disease. Fortunately, due to Anthony’s earnings at his second job as a driver between Nairobi and Nakuru in addition to the funds he saved from his Zidisha backed poultry business, Anthony was able to purchase a piece of land in Maili Kumi. He plans to repay his current loan in the following week and refocus his efforts.

Anthony has been practicing farming and agriculture since he was a child. On his new property, he is currently growing maize and other assorted vegetables to be sold to the rapidly expanding customer base in Nakuru. His long term goal is even more ambitious. By November, he plans to purchase a cow and begin a dairy farm on his new property. In addition to Anthony’s lifelong knowledge of rearing livestock, he has researched the local market and is well versed on what he can expect to receive in return for his investment.

He calculates that a cow could produce 40 liters of milk each day. With the local price hovering between 30-40 Kenyan Schillings per liter, Anthony expects to make between 800-1,000 Kenyan Schillings after production costs. In addition to strictly selling milk, Anthony also plans to take courses to learn how to produce yogurt and cheese from the milk, both of these products would increase his profit margin.

Losing 80% of his chickens could have been debilitating financially to Anthony, but because of his ambitious and ingenious use of his Zidisha loan, he is now embarking on a business venture that he believes will be both more safe and profitable.
