I am Betty Muge. After completion of my secondary school, I struggled to start a poultry farm with one hen. I realized that this was a good venture. I increased the number through natural brooding methods. This raised my flock to 20. I could manage to get an income for subsistence. I also used to sell the poultry droppings to the farmers in order to earn extra income to enable me to buy the [poultry] feed.
My income has been through the sale of eggs from my indigenous poultry, and I can get up to ksh. 300 ($2.89 USD) a day. Capital is a big deal to expand the project, since I am inspired to improve this business to extend [the number of?] brooding chicks using an artificial brooder. I also have a plan for improving the whole system to purchase improved flocks.
I will use $20 the loan to buy more poultry layers that will increase my current flock. Through the sale of eggs is what I will use to repay my loan. Eggs is rich in protein thus this will help improve the nutrition of the community by protein enrichment thus reducing cases of nutrition diseases. I will expect 15 eggs in a day which will sell at KSH.10 each giving Kshs.150 a day amounting to Kshs.900 a week.
