I do appreciate the lenders for the support offered to me so far.
I have expanded my poultry house and my profits has increased because of improved quality of eggs and meat.
Am still in the process of building a permanent structure as this will prevent predators like rats and cats from invading the structure.
My next loan if approved will be of great help as it will assist in buying materials.
Thanks a lot for your continued support.

The reason for change is because the funds i had was diverted to buying poultry medicine due to certain illness.Am grateful to zidisha for now my profit has increased due to increased productivity.I humbly request the credit team to increase my credit limit so as to be able to establish a poultry shop where i can sell poultry products.

I had the chance to briefly talk to Caroline Ngesa when I recently met her at her friend, colleague and fellow Zidisha member, Reginah Njiri’s house.
After completing a Diploma in Tourism and Travel, Caroline has been working for ground handling companies at the international airport in customer service roles for many years. For several years she also had a shop selling and repairing mobile phones and offering photocopying services but she closed this last year due to poor returns.
Caroline owns a small plot of land in the outer Nairobi suburb of Githunguri which she has fenced and built a small house on where she lives. On her property she buys chicks, rears them and then sells the adult chickens after around three months and she also sells the eggs they lay. She currently owns around 100 chickens and she says it’s a profitable business selling this local chicken breed, kienyeji.
Caroline has used her Zidisha loans to purchase a solar panel which she uses to provide electricity for her home and chicken house as it is too expensive for her to get connected to the electricity grid at the moment. The solar panel has provided her with cleaner, cheaper and safer heating and lighting than the paraffin lamps and charcoal burners she previously used.
Caroline is aiming to repay her current Zidisha loan earlier than scheduled so she can use a further loan, as well as the money she currently saves from her salary and business, to open a chicken butchery selling non-kienyeji chicken meat. In the longer term she is also interested in opening a fish monger as these other types of meat are becoming more popular in Kenya to supplement the traditional diet of goat meat and beef.
Caroline’s parents and six siblings also live in Nairobi and she sometimes assists her brother, who is in his final year of high school, and sister, who is in college, with money for tuition fees.

    Dear Caroline,
first of all congratulations on a great project - using the sun is def. the way to go! - but I think there's a real danger of the loan not getting funded, unless there's at least some interest on offer. Are you sure you can't stretch your budget to include 1 or 2% of interest for the lenders? They/we have the risk of exchange rate changes to think of.

    All the best,
    Mårten

hallo zidisha team.its arainy season in kenya and my small chicks are feeling the effect of the weather.a solar panel would make work so easy because currently i a charcoal bunner to warm the room and at times the chicks move too close to the heat that they get burned.one the room is solar enabled i will buy energy saving bulbs to save energy for the cold season
