About Me

I was born in a rich agricultural area in Kitale, Kenya. I went to local schools in my area and after that I joined the University of Naiorobi in Kenya where I studied Environmental and Biosystems Engineering. From a rural setting and managing to rich the University in a country where there is high level of poverty and my parents struggling to pay my fees; is something am proud of.

I started my business of manually making briquettes using hands because I was disturbed by the wanton destruction of our forests by charcoal burning and wanted to make a difference. When I was growing up, there were several forests in our locality especially natural trees but now days the story is different. We are heading towards low forest cover against the stipulated world standard.

I am passionate about new ideas and technological advancement that protect the environment in a sustainable way.swimming and reading on topical issues are my key hobbies.

My Business

After working for several organisations,I challenged myself to be an entrepreneur.I looked around my environment, saw the destruction of forests and decided that I have to be the change I want to see.Trees were being cut to meet domestic fuel and in some instances industrial production. This destruction prompted me to act.

I partnered with my brother and started making briquettes using hands. In a day,we are able to get one bag of 50kg.The demand in our market center alone is approximately 500 bags a month.

I intend to fabricate a manual briquetting machine from local available materials so that I can increase my production capacity. I target a production capacity of 4 bags of 50kg a day. This translates to approximately 100 bags of 50kg a month. selling a bag at the current rate of USD 10,the business will fetch USD 1000 month. The operational costs anticipated are to the tune of USD 600.This leaves us with a profit of USD 400.The business is self sustainable and breaks even in two month and can comfortably repay the loan.

Currently I make USD 260 which I share with my brother. We each take home USD100 month to meet our personal effects and USD 6 caters for operational costs of the business.

Loan Proposal

Once I acquire the loan, I intend to buy materails for making manual briquetting machine. The loan will carry out the following:
-buy a press@ USD20
- 13 feet 3 inch steel bar@USD25
-10feet 2 inch steel bar @USD 10
-8 feet 1 inch steel bar@USD 8
-5feet by 5 feet metal sheet@USD 17
-Drum for carbonising@USD 20
-Welding costs@USD50

TOTAL COST IS USD 150

With these materials and after fabricating the manual briquette,I hope to increase my production capacity from 25 bags of 50kg a month to 100 bags of 50kg a month. This will help me meet part of the demand in my local market and reduce the destruction of trees because my briquettes are using agricultural and forest waste.

My profit will increase from USD200 to USD 400.This will go along way in improving my living study,my brother and my whole family. The impact the loan will create will be huge to me and the community around me.The profit raised can be reinvested in the business, used for expansion and in the long term, meet demand in my locality and other parts of the country
