I was raised by my grandmother called Mwolomet.I was born outside wedlock and my mother disappeared and left me when i was still of tender age.I have never seen her to date.Later my grandmother passed away and i inherited her piece of land at olengureini.Life was a real struggle of me.The only family i knew was grandmother. She had had only one child my mom.I managed to clear primary school and was sponsored through high school by our local catholic church.I passed well but there were funds to see me through college.I settled down into farming.I mobilized other local youths who were undergoing the same problems .We met and decided to do horticulture farming to earn a living. We also started a football club of young farmers doing horticultural farming. We play every Sunday afternoon and share challenges that we are undergoing in the horticultural farming as well as market our products. Our area is very good and very good in producing vegetables, potatoes and dairy farming. Our people in this region love potatoe dishes and green peas.Iam married with two kids.My first born child wants to be a teacher when she grows up and my son has great interest in wildlife. My hobby is playing and watching football.
I do horticultural farming.I grow cabbages, green peas and potatoes.I recently put up a green house to grow tomatoes. This products contribute towards realisation of food security in the country and also are part of daily meals in many homes throughout the the country. They are nutritious and contribute in providing the required nutrients for humans. They also take a short time to mature and one can have three harvests within a year.I was raised by a farmer and i naturally became one.It was easier to continue doing what i already had experience in.My horticulture project spends about 60,000KES and after harvest i get 80,000 KES.I spend my revenues in paying fes for my kids and educate my wife who is pursuing a diploma in horticulture at the Local University.I also buy seedlings, pesticides and fertilizers for the next planting.
Our local football club Young farmers club has 20 members. We all do horticultural farming. We plan to buy proper shoes for the club members to enhance the game.We are going to buy 20 pairs of Nike sports shoes for each member. Each pair costs 20$.The total budget will be 400$.We have opened an account where we have been able to put some small savings for the same goal. With this loan and what we have saved we will realize this goal. This club we assist each other to market products and to surmount the challenges that horticulture farmers have.We voice our grievances and sell our products together so that we can bargain a good price.Others.Its also a good pastime which boosts health and keeps our youths engaged constructively. This football club is the a conduit to access to markets and enhancement of profits.
