my name is lilian omondi,I was born and raised in siaya county.my dad passed on when I was young and so my mother struggled to raise me and my 5 siblings. I went to Lukina primary school and sinyolo secondary school and completed in 2011. I had no school fees for college and hence had to engage in income gerating activities to help me save for my fees as well as support my struggling mum.
I went to kisumu where i worked as a house girl but the work was too much. I spend 18 hours working each day.I developed pneumonia and therefore had to come back home as I could not continue working.with my $50 saving.I embarked on farming.with the help of my siblings we cleared a quarter acre of land and planted tomatoes.the acreage has since increased to 3/4 acres and the farming enterprise is doing pretty well.
I read novels, visit friends, play basketball and guide my siblings and young girls in my village during my free time.I am also the secretary in my youth group where we help and mentor each other.
I grow tomatoes in my 3/4acre piece of land ,because the climatic conditions and soils here are very favorable for tomato farming.
99% of house hold in siaya county use these vegetables daily while only 2% of the population does tomato farming. The demand far outweighs supply and the gap is always filled with imports from neighboring countries eg Uganda.
I choose these business because ,I could see the gap in these field.with the help from my former agriculture teacher who was a good tomato farmer ,i decided to try my luck.
I spend $120 on average per month and sell $280 per month. I use my profits to pay fees for my siblings, support my mum,pay for my college fees and save for the purpose of business expansion.
I take these opportunity to thank zidisha team for accepting my requesting to join these community.I thank you lenders for helping change the lives of many.
I am requesting for a loan to help me finance the purchase of protective clothing ( apron and mask)fpr use during spraying my farm.I recently bought knapsack sprayer and the chemicals are endangering my life.please help me raise the loan.the cloths will cost $60 and I will use $40 as registration fees.thank you in advance
