About Me

My name is Josephine Auma ,I am a single mother of three kids Esther Auma and Richard Juma. Esther is 13years old and Richard is 10. My husband was a policeman with Kenya police who was shot dead in Baragoi by cattle wrestlers in 2011.
When my husband died in 2011 ,I was left with responsibilities and since I was teaching as a non -trained teacher, earning $15, i could not pay the bills for my kids and my self and so I had to get better job,I looked for a job and nothing was forthcoming. After 6 months I could barely afford anything and so had to relocate to rural areas . With the help of a well wisher ,my kids were admitted to a local primary school at Esirisia Primary school. I could cry each morning ,but with time ,I knew I had to do something.I joined Umoja Widows Self Help Group,we were trained on various aspects of farming. We were then given $100 to start farming. I started by planting capsicum and cabbages which I harvested and sold at $500 after 3 months. Farming gave me hope in life again.
I come from the wanga community, our culture involves dancing, singing and male circumcision.
Esther is passionate with electronics and wishes to become an engineer while Richard would get traditional medicines for sick cow,and wash them his dream is to become a veterinary doctor. My role is to give them a conducive environment for them to achieve their dreams.
I am a traditional African dancer .I dance a lot during my free time.I also visits the less fortunate in the society, streets children and orphans to give them hope ,even if I can not give them monetary support.

My Business

my main products include high value horticultural crops,(cabbages, capsicum and kales) .I sell my products to local market in the nearby Amukura town.I occasional travel to bigger markets depending on demand and availability of the produce.
Vegetables are very important for families diet and are consumed on daily basis by 99% of families around here. That explains why the demand is high throughout the year.
I choose this business after getting training from Umoja widows Self help group, after trying and getting $500 in three months I knew this was the way to go and probably the most profitable business.
I spend approximately $80 and my revenues average is $240 in a month. I get average of $160 in a month as profits.
I use my money to pay for fees for my two children, contribute to a nearby orphanage and take care of my family food and other expenses.

Loan Proposal

Hey lenders . I have completed the construction of the water reservoir and stored water during long rains last month. Thank you for supporting me.
I wish to buy A a water generator that I would use to get water from the reservoir and direct to the farm. these would cost me $300 . I have saved $120 that I would add to the $200 loan to help me get these equipment. I always appreciate your efforts .Thank you
