About Me

I'm Gikaara Tracey, 23 years old and the founder of Mirror Group-Africa, a company that manufactures roofing tiles from waste plastic. As a 23-year old, I like being the performer than the audience (which explains my manufacturing path). I do not just want to enjoy the world and leave. I want to contribute something, however small. I want to matter. And I want to do it while I still have the vigor, ambition and relentlessness of youth. My personal mission is "to go where no one else has gone, to be a trendsetter and to build world class businesses."

My Business

As a recycling company, Mirror group aims to counter the plastic pollution menace that has been a major challenge in Kenya and the world at large(research says there will be more plastic than fish in oceans by 2050), while uplifting standards of living by providing affordable roofing, creating employment opportunities for my fellow youth and growing the economy in general. The rapid growth of the real estate sector makes my business viable. The production equipments are the shredder(for chopping plastics) which is already acquired, the extruder (for melting plastics with sand and the molder (for forming the tiles). The extruder is yet to be acquired since it's the most expensive (USD 10,585) and thus it has stalled the company operations. The total cost of production is approximately USD 50000, including rent and electricity for the business premises. Returns for this business are quite favorable, with prospects of up to USD 10000 per month.

Loan Proposal

My startup company is Something Inc., that aims to make affordable roofing tiles from waste plastic. The loan will aid in acquiring a shredder (for chopping plastics), an extruder (for melting plastics and mixing with sand) and a molder (for molding the final products). The estimated cost of all machines is USD 20000. This project will be beneficial to the Kenyan economy in a number of ways: I will create employment to my fellow youth, I will get rid of the waste plastic that has been chocking our environment, I will provide affordable roofing for the average Kenyan and as a result, improve standards of living, I will generate revenue for the government while contributing to the growth of the real estate/ housing sector. My business has the potential to generate upwards of USD 500 in the first month of being full operational.
