My name is Geoffrey Muriithi and I am 24 years old, married to my lovely wife Janet Muriithi and we are blessed with a baby girl who is a bundle of joy by the name Loise Wanjira. My daughter is two years old.We live in the Kitengela a suburb of Nairobi. But I run my mobile phone repair business in the city of Nairobi.
My childhood was not a very happy one since I was raised in object poverty and it was a real struggle to manage to go to school. There was competing interests between me and my five siblings. My parents had a hard time educating me because we were many children and they were peasant farmers.I paid my school fees through primary and secondary by doing odd jobs to people in their farms. But I had a burning ambition to improve my lot.Immediately I finished my class eight which is the final year in primary school,my mother passed away, and this was a blow to me and my future since my father decided to marry a young wife and raise a brand new family thus leaving us destitute.I had to hassle to make ends meet and o educate my siblings.I became my siblings guardian at a very young age.Life was extremely hard. But I had a burning ambition to learn how to repair mobile phones. So through my odd jobs I managed to save some little money then enrolled for a two year arc welding and gas welding engineering course at Nyeri polytechnic
where I graduated with a grade three certificate in the year 2009.
After the training,I came to Nairobi city to start my own mobile phone repair business, which I have been doing to date.
People in Nairobi are warm hearted just like all Kenyans are,and they like visitors and are friendly.
My daughter would like to be an engineer when she grown up.
Whenever I am free,I enjoy watching soccer, and being with my lovely family.
My business is a mobile phone repair business.I repair most mobile phones and tablets from various customers. The business of mobile phone repairs has a ready market that is growing fast because of the recent fast penetration of mobile telephony in Kenya and in Africa in general.Nearly every adult in Kenya has a mobile phone, even if the gadgets are not sophisticated. These gadgets break down hence offering an opportunity for mobile phone repair businesses to grow.
I chose this kind of business because of the ready demand for mobile phone repairs, and also because I have a passion for engineering and repairing gadgets.
My typical costs per month includes rent and electricity, for the shop, soldering iron, and paste.Which totals to $150,My revenue per month is $200.Since my business is still small scale,I the profits to reinvest in my business by buying equipments needed for the phone repairs, and to educate my daughter in per-unit school. My wife runs a small kiosk which supplements the family income, catering for the daily budget such as food and clothing.
I will purchase a new hot air machine, which is a critical equipment in the mobile repair business. This equipment is what is majorly used in all repairs to mobile phones and tablets. The rest of the money I will purchase LCD, and touch screens. This is because in the past,it has been a challenge because I have not been able to satisfy my customers due to the lack of these implements. The amount of money I will use to purchase the items is as follows; hot air machine will cost $50 and the LCD and touch screens will cost another $50. Once I have purchased these items, work will be easier because I will be able to repair many mobile phones and tablets with ease. This will eliminate the usual bad experience with customers who turn away as soon as they realize that I do not have these important items for repairs. This will expand my business faster and will enable me to employ and train a young person who is jobless, hence help create jobs to unemployed youths and give hope to those who have no hope.I believe and expect my profits to double with these gadgets.Thank you so much.
