About Me

I am a hard-working, humble mother of three children. I am the second-born in a family of ten. Unfortunately, my siblings and I are all orphaned, following the death of my father caused by cancer, and the passing away of my mum due to a road accident. Despite these challenges, I have not left out my goals and ambitions to become a great person and role model to those who look up to me. I was born in a humble background in Central Kenya. Both of my parents were hard-working people, who valued respect and strict following of customary values and traditions. They solely depended on farming as their only source of income, which would cater for both our education, as well as sustaining the whole family. They did quite well and never neglected their responsibilities. Unfortunately, both my older sister and I were unable to complete school, mainly due to financial setbacks. I am an agricultural enthusiast, which I can mostly attribute to my growing up in the rural, yet agricultural Central parts of Kenya. I dream of owning large tracts of land in Central Kenya and making it as much productive as it can be. I also aim to revolutionize the negative view most people have towards agriculture and instill something much valuable and positive, in terms of Agriculture.

My Business

I dropped out of high school just when I enrolled. This was quite a major setback, and the situation got even worse upon the passing away of my father. I sought quite a number of jobs, ranging from being a house-maid, assistant shopkeeper, tea plantation worker to even doing the laundry for people. Such saw me earn quite a little, which wasn't even close to what would be considered enough for sustaining the family. I later made a major decision to settle on what I was ever passionate about- Agriculture. I specialized on the growth and sale of potatoes. I started with some little partition of the land owned by my parents. I got some few 5 acres of this land once the whole land was divided among the first three siblings. I planted sweet potatoes on my land, which I would later harvest and sell at the market prices. On comparing what I was doing with the earlier temporary jobs I usually used to do before, I could see a huge variation with the earlier being a better choice. I've decided to solely invest in the sale of potatoes, develop with time and try achieving my goals with it. I make almost 70 dollars per week, which has been adequately enough to sustain the family and pay for necessary expenses. The climate in Central Kenya is much favorable for the growth of many crops such as maize, potatoes, coffee, tea, onions and tomatoes.

Loan Proposal

I will remain with approximately 80 dollars following the deduction of registration fee by Zidisha. I intend to use 150 dollars to erect and build a storage facility for my harvested potatoes. I have already sourced for 80 dollars, and this loan will cover for all that I need as per now. I tend to incur losses sometimes since some of the sweet potatoes I harvest go bad. These do not sell, and I'm forced to sell only what is good, and appeals to the market. With the erection of proper storage facilities, I will be able to evade the occurrence of such losses, and actually boost my earnings. I will use what I earn to pay for this loan in time, to make sure that I maintain good credit rating and to assure myself that I can seek Zidisha whenever I face another challenge any time in future. I look forward to a great, healthy and long term relationship with Zidisha, and would like to appreciate lots in advance. You'll have assisted me with a huge deal of value.
