About Me

My name is Caroline Atieno, born in 28/07/1995 in Homa Bay county, Mbita constituency. I was the seventh child in a family of nine children, the only girl child and eight boys. I went to Nyamasare primary school, did my kcpe in 2010.With God's grace and hard work, I passed examination and eventually proceeded to Sindo Girls Secondary school where I did my kcse in 2014.I got D and could not go to higher education level like university and college and later got pregnant and gradually God blessed me with a baby boy who is still young and can't make decision on his own.I later joined my mother who was selling fish, omena, other fishing products and selling them in Homa Bay town to obtain profit to support her large family. With the help of big brother,John who gave me some money to expand this fish business on my own. It went well despite challenges met in businesses field and I got knowledge and experience for sometime. In Mbita, we experience heavy rainfall during months of March up to June which is good for cultivation of crops and keeping of livestock. Good lake and land breezes makes this town wonderful and scenery attracks both domestic and foreign tourists.During my free time especially Sundays, I prefer going to church, reading bible, magazine and sometimes watching football premier leagues.

My Business

With the little money I received from my brother John, I started and gradually expanded this fish business in order to get good profit margin to lend hand in providing family basic needs, settling bills, paying school fee for my younger brothers who are in primary and secondary school respectively. In this business, early in the morning I do purchase fresh small and big fish, omena, sometimes dried fish and shell them in Homa Bay on market day especially Wednesdays and later in the evening buy horticultural crop produce, vegetables, fruits and sometimes cereals like maize, rice from Ahero scheme for resale in Mbita town on Thursday on market days when mostly good number of customers come to purchase from Mfangano islands,Remba,Ringiti and Rusinga islands.Profits got can be used to expand this fish business, pay school fee for children in the family, food and clothes bought, paying businesses bills and expenses. I am very happy to do and seek experience with the help of my mother who is now aging on and wearing out.
