I am a single father to a lovely daughter. I grew up in Kisumu county in Kenya and was lucky to get to some college after high school but have not been able to get a well paying job. It is because of this that I decided to venture into quail rearing.
The business is promising but a bit challenging because it needs patience to wait for the birds to mature before you sell them.
Apart from the birds, their eggs are on demand because it is believed the have medicinal value.
My daughter wants to be a designer and I encourage her alot in her area of interest.
In my free time I like to bird watch. Our village is blessed with good vegetation for birds and other small animals like squirrels and rabbits.
I rear quail birds as lately their demand has sky rocketed. I have a structure where I rear them in our compound. I buy the birds from hunters who get them from the bush at about four dollars then feed them well and eventually re sell them for six to seven dollars.
Currently I am reinvesting profits back into the business hoping I will be a large scale farmer and be self employed and financially stable. On the side I do menial jobs at a sugar factory nearby where I get wages to cater for my needs and those of my daughter.
If given the loan I will keep more birds for purposes of reproduction, spwecifically I will increase their numbers from ten to twenty which will cost 30 dollars. By so doing it will lower my cost of acquiring the birds and increase my profits. I will also keep birds for longer ensuring they attain better weight for better prices.
I will also add the area of their housing which will cost another 30 dollars.
Then 30 dollars I will invest in buying commercial feeds that will ensure they are healthy and strong.
When the above is in place it will mean more income and a better life for my family.
I expect after three months my profit will triple.
