About Me

Am a proud mother of two ;a boy aged 5 and a girl aged2.5. We are one happy family, we love, appreciate and pray for one another, our home is a small heaven. One of my childhood best memories was when my dad told us that we were relocating to the Kenyan Coast. I was so excited like the rest of the family because it was the end of my weird imagination of how Indian Ocean looked or how coconuts looked like. A few days later we moved and it was one great experience meeting new people of different tribes and learning their culture. One interesting thing is the greetings, they vary depending with the time of the day.
The culture shock was too much and as they say if you cant beat them, join them, so we had to learn the local dialect within 2 months and life was easier for us.Since then they have accepted us as part of their community.
I have tried few businesses before but they failed because I did not have the major skills of managing the profits and mostly I could find myself stranded when I finished my stock. I decided to get a job before venturing into another business, my dad has inspired me to start my own business 'side hustle' even if employed. He has been my mentor and consultant. I hope to pass the same to my two children.
My greatest desire is to have a sustainable commercial farming business, animals and crops. I have started small and I love the impact it has made in my life and family, I dont have to wait for my salary every end of the month.

My Business

My first loan from Zidisha, I used the funds to start rearing rabbits for meat, which started very well but midway the weather conditions drastically changed and I decided to switch to another business which was growing vegetables and bananas.
My parents have been very instrumental in my life and business and they are the reason why am applying for the second loan.
My parents are in business that majors in education for all classes and stages, from pre-primary to college. They sell examination papers, revision materials and teachers work plans. They have been in this business for the last 12 years and since they want to expand I will use the funds to eject more stock to their business. The reason for expanding is because of the soaring numbers of pupils and parents who are starting to appreciate the value of education and demanding fro more school revision materials.
The expansion will enable them to cater for more students and teachers from far and wide as well as provide quality learning materials.
This business is profitable because returns are 100% or more . The profits from the business are used to pay tuition fees for the less fortunate but hardworking students in different schools. The profits will be used to repay the loan.
Thanks in advance Zidisha because through your efforts to fund small business, people like my parents are in a position to help the less fortunate in the society.

Loan Proposal

My love for pets helped in settling on this business idea of rearing rabbits. I have done extensive research about rabbit rearing and I believe once I follow the instructions I will make some good profits. I already purchased one female and I will use the loan plus some little saving I have to buy 3 more rabbits, buy feeds and build a good shelter for them. Rearing rabbits is relatively cheaper compared to other animals, example the feeds, they don't have to feed on commercial feeds instead they can feed on grass, vegetables, some plants and other available waste. On feeding any one can do it as long as the feeds are fresh so as not to harm their health, like the only one I have now, my 4 years old son feeds it and cleans its house. no much expertise.
According to my research, the returns are good because they take six months to mature and the doe can give birth after every 2 months, considering I have 2 does each gives to 6 young ones, in one year I will have 72 rabbits. A mature rabbit can sell at KES 500 = 5.683 DOLLARS, so if I sell 30 live rabbits I will get KES 15000 = 170.5 DOLLARS. if I decide to slaughter and sell meat only, a mature rabbit weighs about 5 kilograms,1 kilogram sells at KES 400 = 4.546 DOLLARS, I get KES 2000 = 22.733 DOLLARS.
Once they start breeding I plan to sell the young ones to my neighbors since most of them rear chicken and goats.
