I am the third born in a family of five and born in Kilifi County. My childhood days were quite enjoyable in that we had ample time to play and interact with our age mates unlike today whereby technology has really overtaken some of this activities. I remember playing hide and seek in the forest, hunting and making toy cars using used cans just to mention but a few.
The idea of starting this business which is a Cereals Retail shop came as a result of scarcity of such shops in my area of residence, also getting some commodities was a bit hectic since most shops were not well stocked with various goods.
My land or rather our culture is quite unique in that we still uphold most of our traditional believes and till now some are still practiced. For instance when a woman is pregnant and the husband/wife is unfaithfully it is believed the unborn child is likely to be born with an abnormality or in some cases he/she might die after birth. In such cases a cleansing ritual is done to prevent the bad omen.
I have three children aged nine, six and three years. The first born a girl wants to be a doctor when she grows up while the second born a boy would like to be a lawyer and the last born a girl is still young to decide.
During my free time i like reading novels, playing football at the beaches as well as swimming.
My business is a retail shop which is a family business and deals with food stuffs, soft drinks, cereals, and stationery. These goods are in demand since I live in a densely populated area and more so most shops are not well stocked to provide all the goods. The reason why i choose this kind of business its because i realized most of the shops in the locality were not stocked with some commodities and most residents were forced to walk for a long distance in such of goods.
The profit i make is usually reinvested back to the business and also use it for our family upkeep including school fees and general expenses. I am also employed at Technical University of Mombasa where as the business is run by my wife.
I will buy pishori rice40kgs@$48
wheat flour 2 bells @$25
maize flour 2bells @$ 20
Beans 40kgs @$40
This will make my shop to be well stocked and my clients shall fill their shopping baskets at one stop and ease them the burden of going for in search of the foodstuffs. I expect my profit to increase with a percentage of around 20percent since most of these items have a profit margin of between 20 and 25 percent
