My name is Joel Adoom, I come from Rongo in Migori County of Kenya. I was born on the 1st of January, 1959 (56years old). I belong to a family of five with two siblings. I started my education at Sango Preparatory School at Kambija village. I had my Junior High education at Obera Boys High School and proceed to Kisumu Technical Training Institute for my Diploma course in Leather Craft.
Am an artist by profession specialized in new leather bags and shoes, self employed from 1986 up to date. I started business because there was lack of job opportunities in Kenya so I realized that business could make me financially stable, disciplined person, and to cater for myself and my family ,a boss on my own and be focused in life. I have managed to purchase a piece of land in my rural home. My hobbies are sharing new ideas, reading books, fishing, playing football.
At the time the leather fraternity was unknown and had a small man power therefore I sort to find a way of helping raise the image of the society by providing leather products to them. This has help me with my family and created job opportunity to young men within the village.
My wife runs a Boutique where we sell basic leather products for example: Gadget bags, School bags, and a few soap stones sculptures. She is a very supportive and understanding woman, she has always encouraged me so much to apply for this loan, as she is willing to help me raise the installments as we work together to the success of our leather boutique, as it is more profitable. This will be for an interim period of three months as we wait for the leather products be of better quality for the market. The three months are enough to bring us enough money that can be re-invested in the project for expansion purposes. This will ensure self sustainability for both her boutique and the leather project. I look forward to expanding the leather shop to a level whereby it will be supplying other towns with leather products at the same time.
My dream is to expand and start a Craft Academy that can be used as an education center to the youth who are trying to venture into a similar business as a way of dealing with unemployment as away of giving back to my community.
When I get this loan,it will help me improve on my leather project in the following ways; buying of one industrial machine estimated at 40 dollars, buying of raw materials and paying for workshop extensions at the balance of 60 dollars. Despite the fact that I still have deficit of about 50 dollars for value car cushions, and am happy that through this loan I will be able to see some of the followings: the returns the loan will create; improved leather decorated products that will help me get a bigger and better market since the products are in good shape, the expected benefit is likely to shoot up especially when different laces are added which will see me making almost double the input. The returns will then help expand my workshop by increasing the number of leather products and also employ a few people.
I need support because I can't afford single handedly to meet full financial requirements of the raw materials due to the increased costs of products.
Thanks in advance. Be blessed.
