About Me

My name is Jane Ochilo, I am 60 years old and I am also a widow. I have one child and one grand daughter. I was born and raised in Nyanza county in Kenya near the lake side. I have lived in the village for most of my life as well. My husband was a fish monger because we lived near Lake Victoria, it was the most common proffesion. He would capture fish and send them to me in nairobi where I would later sell them at a profit. After he passed away, I never went back to the village because his family refused to recognize me as his legal wife. My daughter got a child at an early age, and left me with the responsibility of raising my grand child. Although she is young, she gives me the strength to go on and a hope for a better tommorow.

My Business

I started farming maize and beans and later selling them at the local cereal stores and agrovets that use maize as chicken feed. I have been doing okay so far, I make at least 2000 ksh per week. my expenses include pesticides and transport which make my profits change from 2000-1500 ksh some times. My business mostly suffers when the climate conditions are not favorable for growing both the maize and beans.

Loan Proposal

My main reason for applying for a loan is to be able to send my grand daughter to primary school, class one. She just turned 8 years old and most of her age mates are already in school. I want her to have access to the education that i was not able to get or to give to my own daughter. I will use 60$ to pay for her fees. 20$ to buy her books, 80$ to buy her uniform and shoes. I will use 100$ to move to a house closer to her school so that I can be able to walk her to school every morning, and pick her up from school in time. This is because I cannot afford to pay for the school bus and we currently live very far from the closest school. The remaining 40$ will go towards helping me add seedlings so that I may have enough variety to add on to my cereals sales. This way I will be able to get a wider market for my business and take care of my grand daughter with less financial strain.
