I am 24 years old and engaged. I hold a degree in HR and currently I work at a local company in Nairobi as a transcriber and a virtual assistant. I'm independent and my salary is not able to sustain me and spare enough to start a business, which has always been my dream.
I live in Ruaraka, where there are so many people my age who are going through the same situation as I am, because they are mainly campus students and fresh graduates. I would like to start a business, which will be able to offer small-time jobs for these people.
I like to write. I believe I have a distinct way of looking at life, which I usually express in my writings.
I would like to start an outsourcing company for internet jobs. This job will include transcription, which is translating oral data to word format or OCR, which stands for Optical Character Recognition. It is the electronic translation of scanned images of handwritten, typewritten or printed text into machine-encoded text. Floor plans where one is required to sketch out rooms for offices and houses. These jobs are outsourced to us from other countries. They are time-flexible and don't require a lot of skills. Training takes a short time, which is either in word format or podcast.
I want to expand my online freelancing business by adding a movie store. It's easy to manage both businesses simultaneously because their peak times are different, they target a similar market and require the same equipment. Therefore I would love to get another computer, get a license and a commercial room. My savings can cater for both licensing and renting a room for two months with a surplus of sh. 5,000. The computer I intend to get costs sh. 18,000, I therefore need an additional sh. 13,000.
This will enable me to pay for my school fees as well as have one other person as a part-time employee, apart from an additional 2 freelancers to whom I supply jobs online.
