About Me

I am Jared Obuogi Ochieng’ born in the year 1991 April by Peres Akoth Ochieng’ and Benson Ochieng’ Obuogi of Kabonyo village block number four(4), Kibigori Sub Location, Chemelil Location, Muhoroni Sub county in Kisumu county.

I was brought up in a family of eight (8) being the fourth born. I started my Education at Oroba Primary School up to class six before getting transferred to Kamuny Primary where I sat for my Kenya Certificate of Primary Education in the year 2005.

In 2004, I lost my father after a short illness after which in 2005 I lost my mother which left me a total orphan. After my KCPE, I got a sponsorship with NGO called Agape Development Ministries that helped me through High School to College. I went to Nyakoko Secondary School where I left in 2009 and later in 2010 September, I joined Kaanan International College for my Certificate in Primary Teacher Education where I left in 2012 August.

After college I started teaching in a church school up to the time it was closed down. I proceeded to another private school in Maseno where I taught for two years before coming back home in 2015. In 2015 April, I got married to my wife Linnet Akinyi whom am staying with at home while teaching in another public school at home as a PTA teacher.

My Business

After my college when I came back home, I started a small scale farming of sugarcane that enabled me after 2 years to start a business of selling shop items including soap, sugar, tea leaves, wheat flour, salt, baking and other few items.

I started the business in my house. This was since I did not have enough money to construct a room for the business. Before starting the shop I met obstacles and many challenges as listed below:
i. Lack of space for construction of the house / shop where to place the items.
ii. Lack of customer due to the act that there were other people selling the same items in their shops
iii. Discouragements from friends and family as they claimed that running a shop is hectic and requires one to sacrifice their full time which was not seen in me.
After all the challenges and obstacles I met, I made my mind the following are ways that I took in place to overcome the above challenges.
i. I decided to use my house instead of constructing a house.
ii. I had to create more friends and tell the neighbors about it.
iii. I had to create more time to help my sister who was helping in the shop.
The business is still on and being run by my wife.

Loan Proposal

i am planning to add more stock to my grocery shop. i am very thankful for the first loan that i got from zidisha because i used it to add stock. and my desire is to keep on growing my shop to a level of a supermarket in future . i do believe that with zidisha it is very possible. i am expecting a loan of approximately 300usd of which i am planning to buy the following commodities: 50kg of rice @ 50usd, 50 kg of sugar @60usd, 100kg of maize floor @ 80usd, 40 litres of cooking oil @ 60usd, other shop items of small quantities @ 50usd. iam expecting an increase of profits which i am planning to continue adding more stock
