About Me

I was born in 1954 as the second born in the family in Wumari Mwamkolo in Bura Taita Taveta County . I went Kenyatta High School Mwatate for my O levels.

Thereafter studied a 6 months salesmanship course in Mombasa. I got a casual job as a salesman in a garage in Mombasa. With a meager pay I had to walk 10 kilometres everyday to fro work, often on an empty stomach. Luckily, I found a better job in a hotel in Malindi, Kilifi County as food and beverage waiter, and rose to become the Food and Beverage controller.
I retired in 2012,and went to the village to engage in farming activities. The wake up call call in 2013 when my younger brother passed . He left me with the responsibility of taking care of his family of six. That made it 11 people including my own family and my orphaned niece.
As a retired employee, I could not make ends meet, so i decided to take a small loan and started my retail shop business in Maungu, Voi-Subcounty, Taita Taveta County in 2016.
Taita Taveta, county is home to the Tsavo West and East National Parks, we have been forced to co-exist with wild animals, though human-wildlife conflict is prevalent especially with elephants and leopards. This has caused havoc to our crops and domestic animals.

Taita has a rich history of participating in the second world war between the British and the Germans. Gemstones and iron ore is found in plenty in the Taita Hills.

My Children would like to be businessmen when they grow up.

I am jolly fellow and I love to entertain people especially kids who call me "Babuu" ( grandfather in Kiswahili) and make them laugh with my unique slogan..."jambooo!"

My Business

I run a retail shop, where I sell groceries, fruits and vegetables, cereals, and shoes and cutlery, mobile phone airtime.
These are day to consumable items required in the homes daily.
I chose this kind of business because it provides necessities for families who live around where my shop is located.

My monthly operational expenses including rent and utilities is approximately Kes. 10,000
Cost of purchasing goods and services is Kes 65,000

Monthly turnover is approximately Kes 100,000

Profits approximately Kes. 25,000 which I use to my large family expenses, school fees, medical expenses and utilities, part of it I reinvest into buying more business stock.

Loan Proposal

I will buy stock for my shop with, cereals, vegetables, fruits, soaps, detergents, soft drinks, food items, etc.

My customers shall be able to find most of the items they require, saving them time of going too far to fetch the items.

I expect my profit to increase by at least 45 %, because due to lack of enough stock my customers go to my competitors who are far away.

Income Source

Due to the fact that I sell necessities of daily living, I still get customers coming to buy from my shop.

The nearest shop is about 400 metres away in a residential area of about 300 potential customers, and also I get a lot of foot prints from passersby as my shop is on a main road.

At the moment my earnings are far below my potential even with this ongoing pandemic, due to low stock. With enough stock I shall buy with this loan facility, I should be able to service the loan effectively.
