About Me

My name is Elizabeth a teacher by profession in Kenya.I am the last born of three sisters and two brothers and from a small tribe called Teso found in Western Kenya and parts of Uganda.
Our parents are no longer with us, our beloved mother passed on early after my birth and the well respected police officer that was our father and bread winner left us a few years later. We grew up together in the country side and despite the many challenges of survival we managed to get by and support one and other.
After completing my basic education we had then moved and was living in the informal settlements of Nyeri. Me and my siblings managed through doing odd jobs to move out of the household and to work and support an upcoming primary school in Nyeri. Although the wage was minimal I was glad and appreciative of the experience and exposure in being apart of setting up and managing a business and also teaching young children in Kindergarten and Primary school.

My Business

My business - The BABY EKADA Centre offers daycare and tuition services for Infants, Toddlers and Preschoolers (9 months – 4 years). It was founded in 2014 .
In a caring and stimulating atmosphere, we are passionate and engaged to give children endless opportunities to grow, learn.
While academics play a role in development, i believe there are many other opportunities for enhancing the whole child.
I recognise that curriculum is more than what appears in manuals or a series of activities. I believe curriculum is everything that happens in the classroom, from interactions and meals to singing and playing. I never miss an opportunity to educate.
My customers are parents within Nyeri town and in a good month i make profits of upto $ 200 which i use to cater for my family needs and save a little.

This will cost me about $230
The impact personally will enable meto contribute and offer support for my sisters and brothers. Further I believe that this dream and grow into something great and perhaps even scale up to reach another place to attend to the large area with many families with children.
