My name is Philip Gyan, I am an entrepreneur. I am 27 years old and a graduate of Real Estate Management. I am happily married to a beautiful woman. I live in Teshie a suburb of Accra. I have always been in love with cooking as by nature I am predisposed to cook. I also love reading and know how string intricate, beautiful and gorgeous looking African beads. I’ve started a food vending business that I operate from home, whereby I sell deliciously made snacks. Running a food vending business allows me the flexibility of another source of income for my family
I started my food vending business selling deliciously made minced pies, chicken pie, sausage rolls, cupcakes and spring rolls from home here in Ghana. I was baking these and placing them at a pub owned by a friend but realized I wasn’t making as much sales as I would have if I had my own stall as well as being able to expand the business to include other pastries such as cakes, pizza and burgers, smoothies, and drinks but to do so will require that I get more equipment. This will require a lot of funding which is quite difficult to access at the moment.
I choose to do this business because of the role it plays in making affordable, better quality and tasty source of snacks readily available for the teeming population of Ghana who have to get to work or school and other activities very early with no time to prepare breakfast. From my survey of the average eateries around I discovered there isn’t much of quality pastry being sold and the prices are exorbitant. I also discovered from the compliments I’m receiving so far that I am making pastries that are of a good quality as well as affordable and I have been able to maintain profit.
So far I have been able to kick-start the business but lack adequate equipments such as a food warmer, food processor, baking trays, a grill, a dough mixer, a pastry crimping wheel, a fridge and a showcase.
I believe that Zidisha will assist me with the loan required to acquire these equipments as well as my goal to become the Ghanaian version of McDonalds with time and effort on my part.
My work place owner has collected his land so i will use the loan to get a new site that i will work there.Thank you.
