About Me

My name is Mary Wanjiku Muthee and a resident of White House Estate near section 58 Estate that is off Nakuru -Nyahururu highway.l am the first born in our family of three members and my sister has been employed outside country.l graduated two years ago from Nairobi University in Nairobi with a diploma in I.T(Information Technology). I ventured into business where i started a small retail bakery business. The main reason to start a bakery business is because of the main benefits which is that this is one of the easiest and cost-efficient start-up business, you can turn your culinary art into a successful business if you have an idea, or are famous for, a certain baked treat. I started my bakery project at home with the ingredients for my speciality. It was easy to begin by selling baked goods to my neighbors and friends, and in most cases, by word of mouth, the business began to grow.Once i started making money i started investing some of it into advertising and marketing. My dream is to expand my business into a retail store. I love and have passion in being my own boss which i find rewarding although very demanding especially in the beginning.

My Business

I sell baked goods such as cakes, breads and cookies.I sell baked goods at retail to the public and i am intending to expand it to set up an operational that uses a combination of the two both retail to the public and to sell at wholesale to stores and restaurants. This combination of wholesale and retail is often very successful. One advantage that made me realize opening a bakery business is one of the easiest businesses to start up is that i started a bakery business from my home. That allows me to start small and expand as my business grows. My small retail bakery shop often specializes in a specific baked product, such as birthday cakes, and i have managed to provide cookies, cakes and other baked goods to my customers.I have also started specializing on wedding cakes and cheesecakes. As the high demand for my prepared goods has started to provide link to also concentrate with wholesale. On a good month am able to make Ksh15,000 from my bakery business as net profit. I acknowledge that starting any business is a challenge and requires long hours and dedication.Starting a bakery is rather simple and fairly straightforward. Many of the bakeries that fail is due to lack of inadequate planning and also lack of preparation. With the help from the Zidisha team i would love to make these first steps of bakery entrepreneur on the path to success.
