About Me

Am Amos Muhindi, 23 years of age. I live in Mlolongo along Mombasa Road about 25KM from the Central Business of Nairobi. This area is very vibrant and has been growing drastically for the last two years. Real estate development and transportation has been the force behind the current development in this town. Being part of the youth, life is challenging for me irrespective of the fact that have managed to start a salon and a barbershop. Have put both businesses in one room, which helps me reduce power and rent expenses. This business facilitates my stay in this place by footing my bills where necessary. Additionally, it helps pay my education fees and other related expenses. As of now, it is doing a bit okay and am grateful for that though it is my advent urge to expand it to a different height.
Besides that, am a part time student at Regional Institute (Nairobi Campus) which is an affiliate of Maseno University undertaking a Diploma in Tourism. I work during the morning hours and head to class in the evening and over the weekend. Juggling between school and work, in addition to other errands, is indeed a hard task. However, I must keep up with the situation since it is the only way out. As a result, I decided to start this business in January 2013 so that I can raise money to pay for my classes and sustain myself as well as provide for my mother. Therefore, the earnings that I obtain from my business after paying all the expenses for both the salon and barbershop goes straight to paying my school needs, individual requirements, and helping my mother.
I seek the help provided by Zidisha because I really need to expand this business. As of now, we only provide salon and barber services. Over time, demand for hair products which include but not limited to wigs, weaves, Gel, Gel sets and kits, hair accessories, curling wands/tongs, conditioners, and detangler has increased. As such, when I get the loan, I will use it to buy these products and intensify my services and am contented that I will reap maximum benefits out of this field of operation. Thus, I wish to ask Zidisha and its lenders to help me realize my dream and sustain a life at the same time.

My Business

I run a salon and a barbershop. Out of this business, I get a considerable amount of income that I use to facilitate both my daily living and my education. I specialize in haircuts, styling, formal hair styles, manicures, pedicures, and polishing. These services offered at the moment have the capacity to pay the loan once given. Nevertheless, if I get the loan I will add products that have mentioned i.e wigs, weaves, Gel, Gel sets and kits, hair accessories, curling wands/tongs, conditioners, and detangler. Am more concerned with these products because their demand is indeed very high and willing to even start supplying them to the neighboring salons and barbershops. In other words, I will be their distributor if I get the chance to benefit from Zidisha’s lending services.
Customers prefer my business as opposed to other providers because I provide outstanding, quality, and cost effective services in regard to haircuts and hair styling. Creativity is our motto and we strive our best to maintain a cutting edge in the industry since competition is in all fields of business operation. This business is profitable since hair grows on daily basis. Most people around here work in the nearby Indian and Chinese run industries. Thus, they require their employees to always be neat and tidy. We are never out of business at any given time of the year and this gives us a upper hand in this field. Away from the merit side of this business, we at times face risks although we have managed to solve them. For one, employees tend to misuse electricity when am not around. They also cause some financial losses when accounting is delayed. The heaviest of all risks relates to power outage that may last for a whole week. This situation leads to losses but am working on getting a generator to avoid the issue. Typically, the business’ monthly costs range between KSH 10,000 and KSH 13,000 which goes to paying employees, rent, and purchasing supplies. Sales revenue range between KSH 30,000 and KSH 35,000 a month. The business gives me a profit of not less than KSH 6,000 per month after settling my individual and school needs.

Loan Proposal

Thank you Zidisha for giving me this opportunity to post a loan request to the kind lenders all over the world. Once I get the loan, I will expand my business by buying new products which include but not limited to wigs, weaves, Gel, Gel sets and kits, hair accessories, curling wands/tongs, conditioners, and detangler. I will appreciate any concerted efforts put herein by the Zidisha team and its lenders.
