My name is Ruth Arisi born in 1986 and a Kenyan by birth. I'm married and with 3 children all in school and my husband is a business man.We have been running a family business for almost 5 years in second hand clothes but for about two years now, i run a charcoal business.
I live within Kaptembwo constituency of Nakuru County in the republic of Kenya.I completed secondary school education and therefore able to read and write. I preferred this type of business since the commodity is used on a regular basis.Secondly, it is a non-perishable commodity therefore i dont see any losses in it.I purchase charcoal ans as well money accrued from it is saved for future use.
I supply charcoal in retail and wholesale. I find this to be interesting since i serve both individuals, institutions and hotels. So i have a good public/customer relations as iam able to discuss to all my clients at personal, institutional and group levels. There is demand for this commodity as in not everybody is able to afford gas. Most of my clients use charcoal because its less expensive and easy to operate as compared to gas.Any business venture has competition and risks in it. As in my case, i dont see competition coming in greatly par se, but there are challenges such as licenses, poor transport system from the source points, and market variation in terms of pricing. However, i have countered this by doing enough research on marketing, promotions, incentives to my customers and as well finding a better and affordable price for my clients basing on measurements of 1 kilo as in tins , half a sack , and full sacks depending on what one desires to take.My typical monthly costs ranges to about 50,000 Kenya shillings. My sales revenue and profits goes up to 100,000 Kenya shillings a month. So i find myself with a cool 50,000, Kenya shillings a month. This goes to savings. After deductions on my salary and other incidentals, i have a coll Kenya shillings 25,000.
The loan will be used to purchase 10 sacks of charcoal which will be sold at whole sale and retail rates. This loan will be helpful to me since i will have more stock and get more clients to boost my business.I appreciate very much for the efforts taken in making sure that i secure the loan. Thanks.
