About Me

I graduated in 2008 from university of Nairobi with bachelors degree in Sociology & economics. I have been working with NGOs since then. I and 2 local young people have established a community based organization with a mission to Nurture, Empower and Transform local young people to be self reliant and independent.

I am happily married and blessed with 2 children aged 4 years and 9 months. We reside in Githurai which is a slumburbia on the outskirt of Nairobi.

I have started a poultry business which involves keeping of chicken for eggs and meat which is sold to individuals and the local hotels. I started the business to improve the total family income and also utilize the skills of agribusiness that my wife posses. The profit from the business is reinvested to expand the business thus in future the profit will be used to improve the life of the family members more so on the children education.

My Business

The poultry business involves rearing poultry with both commercial & traditional feeds like local vegetables to reduce the cost. The chicken are kept for eggs and meat hence sold to individual or hotels within community but we have got a business deal with a city hotel to be supplying them with poultry products on monthly basis thus demand is high.

The demand is high because our community has high population and also demand from the city hotels for fast foods hence few local people are involved in business because of high capital involved and high attention required for the chicken.

Customers prefer our products because it's cheap because we use hybrid feeds thus reducing our cost and also the business has good customer care services hence customer keep on coming with referrals.

The business is profitable because the demand is high and the supply is low. Also the mechanism put in place ensures we have limited costs hence high profits. The risk associated with this business is not in position to meet the increasing customers demand thus might keep off from the business thus reducing the profits.

Loan Proposal

The Zidisha loan will be used to facilitate the expansion of my poultry business through purchasing of more chicks @ KES 14000, poultry feeds @ KES 16000, expansion of the poultry structures @ KES 7000 and purchase of feeding equipments @ 3000.

The Zidisha loan will enable the business to acquire the above budget items hence it will be in position to meet the rising customers demand thus increasing the profits which will be used to repay the loan , savings for children education and reinvesting more in the business so that my children can access better education in the future.

I will keep updating the progress of project so that excellent stakeholders can really have a clear understand of the project and also I will ensure to submit the agreed amount on the specified date. I kindly request you to consider funding my loan so that I can sustain the increasing demand of customers hence will ensure to remit the agreed amount on time to facilitate my loved children have better education in future.

    Hi Josephat,

You are the mentor of Samuel Gitau. Samuel don't make any repayment even after his loan was rescheduled on Aug 4, 2013.
I'm very disappointed by the Samuel attitude.
May you give us some feedback (on the Samuel page)?

    Thanks,

    Michel

I see you are the volunteer mentor for Joyce Wangechi. She hasn't made any loan payments in some time. She also isn't posting any reason why. Would you be so kind as to speak to her about her loan?
    Thanks,

    Dear lenders,

Josephat has also notified us about the status of his egg business via email. He expects to sell part of his eggs next week, which should help with his finances and catching up with his loan repayments.
Josephat has been using his computer skills and his understanding of how Zidisha works to help others in ensuring they can manage their repayment calendars according to their circumstances. Thank you Josephat for helping two of your assigned borrowers propose new repayment schedules this week and reschedule their loans. We appreciate your help!

    Dear lenders,

Thanks once again for supporting my loan but unfortunately I have not been in position to repay your loan in time because I fell sick and joined my daughter in hospital thus most of available resources have been channeled to hospital to offset the bills but as I write now my daughter is well and am also better off and intend to resume work as from next week then I will try my best to repay 2 months installments by the end of September 2014. I can't default repaying the loan because it has assisted me expand the poultry project despite the challenges and also am a community leader managing a community based organization that Nurtures, Empowers and Transforms local young people to be self reliant and independent.

Am sorry for the delay but it's my prayer that now it's my time to reap off better things because I was not created to suffer but to serve God and his people .

    God bless you all

    Hi,

I’m Naroa Zurutuza, Zidisha’s Client Relationship Manager in Kenya. In my last visit to Githurai Progressive I met Mr. Bwire.

We first met at the office of Fountain Youth Initiative, the NGO he is responsible of. We talked about what the organization does to empower children and youth in their community (they provide sanitation pads and learning materials to children, they facilitate business and vocational training to youth etc.). At the same time, they are doing a great job in spreading the word of Zidisha and helping new clients with their applications.

In fact, after our talk in his office, Mr. Bwire helped me visiting other clients in the area and introduced them to me.

It was a pleasure meeting you Josephat, hope to keep in touch,

    Naroa Zurutuza

    Dear Lenders,

The weather in Kenya is very cold hence this is not the best weather to keep poultry because of cold thus I am working very hard around the clock to ensure they are okay. I have increased the warmers in the poultry structure to ensure it's warm.

The owner of the hotel has requested my to collect the first installment next week on Monday thus I will be in position to repay my loan and purchase more feeds and warmers for the poultry.

I am working very hard to access more markets for the eggs hence am receiving positive result which will soon translate into business.

Am very grateful for all that contributed towards my loan and look forward to repay the loan so that more people can benefit.

Thanks and God bless you all.

    Dear Members,

My layers poultry are doing well and yesterday the veterinary from the local administration visited my business and inspected hence giving it a positive report thus from now hence forth I will receive extension services from the government thus reducing cost of management hence increasing the revenue.

The owner of the hotel has accepted to repay me the amount but in three installments which I agreed with him so that he can also recover hence I will be in position to repay the loan as agreed.

I am currently working hard to secure various markets for the eggs to facilitate high sales within the short period hence repaying the loan and expanding the business.

Thanks all who contributed towards my loan because it will facilitate expansion of my business.

    Dear Members,

I have managed to keep my broilers poultry in the best way until maturity hence I sold all my broilers to a certain new hotel on credit but it's now almost 3 weeks without payment because the hotel incurred a huge loss when thieves broke and stole everything thus the hotel is recovering while my savings I hard invested on the layers which are doing good thus I kindly request the lenders to bear with this situation as I structure my financial situation so that I can repay the amount in time. With my new plan, I will dedicate my salary to repaying of the loan as the proceeds from poultry will be used for expansion and upkeep of the family.

Thanks for considering to fund my loan hence I will work hard to ensure the loan is repaid within the stipulated time for other borrowers across the globe to benefit.

I will keep you posted to have a clear picture of the project.

    Hi Zidisha,

God has blessed our country because since the beginning of April 2013, we have been receiving heavy rain across the country thus slowing my plan but I have managed to construct a new poultry house which can accommodate more than 250 chicken. The structure was constructed using good materials & design to ensure the chicken are not affected by any harsh climate.

The poultry structure adopted is the modern version because it has feeds storage segment, hatchery segment and dust off segment. This design will ensure the chicken are healthy thus better business.

I have also purchased enough feeders, drinkers and extra water tank to act as reservoir during water shortage. This will ensure the chicken have enough feeds and water thus proper growth and development.

This week I will purchase feeds and medicine for the chicken.

I managed to sale off the last bunch of poultry thus I am in position to repay my first installment by 10th June 2013.

    Thanks all.

    Hi Zidisha Members,

I take this opportunity to thank the management and the members for working tirelessly to ensure this initiative is positively progressing hence supporting more vulnerable people to expand & support their business.

I also want to thank Traci Yoshiyama the Zidisha client relationship manager in Kenya for attend a business training organized by Fountain Youth Initiative. The training was attended by local young people and women from Githurai community. Traci had an opportunity to do a Zidisha presentation and the participants liked it hence they look forward to be members then apply for the zidisha loans so that they can expand their business.

The local young people and women have been trained on business, vocation and life skills on various occasions hence some of them have started small business while others have not started thus they are interested & ready to apply for the loans and expand their business.

Thanks to Zidisha management and Zidisha members across the globe for economically empowering local people across the globe.
