My home is within Piavi location, Njoro District within Nakuru County in Rift valley Province. To get to my home, one takes a vehicle in Nakuru town and alights at Piavi trading centre which is approximately 40 Km away . Most of the time, I am always at the Boda Boda stage which is in the middle of the centre. My home is located just before Piavi Primary school where there is a big Blue gum tree. My names are Paul Gichuka Kabaiku. I am married with 2 children one of who are all schooling. My wife is a house wife and takes care of our two children at home. I have reached ‘O’ level in education. I live in plot number 101 at Piavi location in Njoro District in Nakuru County in Kenya. I started the Boda Boda business after realizing the demand for people to travel to the interior places where the P.S.Vs could not operate. They also needed to travel faster and save time. I found a business opportunity and surely, things turned out very well. The income I get from this business is spent in the upkeep of my family.
My business involves ferrying passengers from and within the areas surrounding Piavi area. The reason why this Boda Boda business thrives well is because the P.S.Vs are not able to drop every traveler in their preferred places of destination. A motorbike is able to take a client right to his/her gate or door faster and with ease. The business has other competitors and I make sure that I am always ahead of them. I ensure that my motorbike is regularly serviced, use good language to my clients and also ensure that both the motor bike and I are clean. My competitors do not realize these secrets. I also ensure that my dress code is decent. I am surprised that every client that I offer a service to is always willing to come back another day for the same service. My business is therefore able to break-even and gives me the morale to continue with it. My gross total income is approximately Kshs. 500,000/= annually. The main challenges that the business encounter are lack of enough capital to expand the business and poor roads.
This is an opportunity that I have been waiting for long and I am honored that I have been given the chance to get a loan from Zidisha organization. With this loan I am going to service my motorcycle and change the oil. This will increase the efficiency as well as reduce the number of times the motorcycle keeps on breaking.
