About Me

My name is Alice Kiragu. I am a Kenyan citizen aged 25. I am married with one kid who goes to school at Kwang’ethe Primary School. I finished my high school education in 2007 and our family situation would not let me continue with my studies. However through government sponsorship I managed to study a diploma in fashion design and marketing . It was not easy to get a job so I started my own production around where I live. My husband does not have permanent job also. He depends on season since he works with a tourist body based in Nairobi town. I live in rental house around Githurai Progressive and also I do my job in the house . My business enables me to pay rent, electricity bill, and water bill and also for my family’s food. I am going to talk about my business in the profile below.

My Business

My business involves sewing bags, curtains and open sandals using locally available materials. I make all these products and go to display them in the market. I took a small loan from equity bank back in 2010 which enabled me buy the first materials that are used. My business has been doing well and I managed to repay it in 5months. I managed to come up with a new design of bags and sandals that my customers have shown interest in. so far I have sold around 20 bags and 10 pairs of sandals. In the past one month I got several orders but could not meet them because I did not have the required materials to meet the orders.

Loan Proposal

This loan will assist me to purchase more raw materials hence increasing my production and the following is how I will spend the amount;
1. Beads - 2000
2. Cardboard - 2400
3. Cover Materials - 2000
4. Sandals Materials -2000

Through this loan I will be in position to increase my production and meet the customers demand hence increasing my profits thus I will be able to expand my business, improve the standard of my business and then repay my loan on time.

I will ensure to repay the loan on time to enable me take another second loan and also give other people chance to be supported with this loan services.

I kindly request you all to contribute towards my loan hence over this weekend I will use the loan to purchase the raw materials and make more products and supply at the upcoming trade fair in the city center of Nairobi.

Thanks all

    Hi,

    I’m Naroa Zurutuza, Zidisha’s Client Relationship Manager in Kenya. In my last visit to Githurai Progressive I had the pleasure to meet Alice Wathuti and visit her place.

    She sews bags, curtains and other handicrafts to sell them in several markets in Nairobi being the Masai market one of them.

    She joined Zidisha two weeks ago and in the beginnning, until one week after joining she got her first loan, she couldn’t believe that it was real. She is really thankful since with the money she got from the loan, she was able to buy new raw material to sew more bags. When I visited her, her table was full of them!

    Good luck with your business,

    Naroa Zurutuza
