About Me

My name is Benjamin Mburu. I am a Kenyan citizen by birth. I reside in Githurai Fountain next to Fountain Junior Academy. I completed my high school education in 2005 and later did a diploma in Information Technology at Kenya Polytechnic College. I have a family and blessed with one kid; Caleb and another coming soon. I do not have a permanent job so I depend on various business activities so that I can earn a living and sustain my family since my wife also does not have a formal job. I the year 2008 I started a cyber café business. It is located in a small town called Githurai Progressive. Through this business I have been able to cater for most of my family need. I have been struggling to expand my business that’s why I hereby apply to zidisha to grant me a loan so as I can move to the next level.

My Business

This loan will go entirely on purchase of extra stationary for sale during the return to school period of May 2014. I also intend buy memory sticks, flash disks and add books, pens, pencils and other learning materials are highly needed by students living in Githurai area. This will help minimize the costs the parents incur when they go for them 12km away as they do now. I will use the loan you lend me to build shelves within my cyber where i will stock various materials used when learning. This is something that some of my customers have asked me to stock and i have already put up an advertising poster to proclaim that the materials will be there. I therefore kindly request for this loan in order to expand my business where i leave my wife to run as i go for job in the public transport where i would like to venture in the future. When we both get to work I think it will be easier to get to another level where we are economically sustainable and ultimately become lenders to Zidisha. That’s my dream. I urge the Zidisha community to contribute to my loan so that I can start my project ASAP. Thank you.

Loan Proposal

this loan will go entirely on purchase of stationary for sale during the return to school period of early 2014. books, pens, pencils and other learning materials are highly needed by students living in Githurai area. This will help minimize the costs the parents incur when they go for them 12km away as they do now. I will use the loan you lend me to build shelves within my cyber where i will stock various materials used when learning. This is something that some of my customers have asked me to stock and i have already put up an advertising poster to proclaim that the materials will be there after new year celebrations. I therefore kindly request for this loan in order to expand my business not to over rely on cyber business as this might be affected by power failure as it did last November. Thank you in advance and God bless you all.I take this opportunity to wish you a merry christmas to you all.

    Dear Benjamin,
running a small data center here by myself, I know what happens with motherboard capacitors on power shortages. After fusing, they smell like fish. Tell me, what Operating System do you use? All the best wishes to you and your family. Sirko

Yes, in our days anti virus software eats all the cpu time. We use FreeBSD on ~100 servers, Kubuntu Linux on some workstations, there is only one workstation with windows 7, there we use Microsoft Security Essentials, the included anti virus software wich came with windows 7. Its faster than Norton and does not bother with ads like free Avira. At home I use Kubuntu Linux too, it has become very user friendly within the last years. At home I have older hardware, Win 7 would not run on it, Kubuntu runs fast anyway and does not need any anti virus.

greatings to zidisha team and all the lenders...am greatfull for the help that you extended to my businesses. you helped me alot in moving into the next step by expanding my cyber cafe into opening another branch several streets from the first.i however seek your forgiveness as i am due by 40 days on the repayment of my loan. i encountered problems with power shortage which affected both my cybers crippling them. The power shortages were caused by moving of power poles as the road serving the route to my businesses is being expanded and tarmacked. The weather also has not helped as we have experienced heavy downpour which in turn affected the power company in moving the poles. But thanks this power interuptions has ended and now i can confidently face my lenders and resume in full force to repaying my loan ..THANK YOU AND FORGIVE ME FOR NOT COMMUNICATING EARLIER.I take this opportunity to wish all of you A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A BLESSED 2014.

    Dear Lenders,

my name is Roberta Zenere and I am a Kenya Country Liaison Intern at Zidisha. Within this role, I am coordinating the Zidisha's MPESA team, responsible for processing loan repayments and disbursements.

Today, while reviewing our accounts, I noticed that the repayment of 5.94 USD (500 KES) posted on September, 15 in the repayment schedule of Mr Mburu was entered by mistake. This means that, upon removal of the transaction, the amount that had been credited to your lender account will be reversed and will reduce your available balances accordingly.

We are sorry for this inconvenience. Please, let us know if you have any questions.

    Thanks for your patience!

    Best regards,

    Roberta

    Dear Zidisha members,

I’m Naroa Zurutuza, Zidisha’s Client Relationship Manager in Kenya currently visiting clients all over the country.

During one of my recent visits to Githurai Progressive I had the pleasure to meet Benjamin Mburu, who gently showed me his business, Kenmash Cybercafe.

When Mr. Mburu started the business more than 4 years ago, he only owned two computers. During these years, he has increased the number of computers up to eight and he has an employee that takes care of the cybercafe. This allows him to work part time as a technician, repairing computers, installing and setting Internet connections etc. In general, he visits particulars at their homes and offices, helping them with electric installations.

With his first Zidisha loan, he intends to purchase a printer/photocopier since right now he doesn’t offer printing services at his place. This will allow him to increase the number of customers, specially because it’s located in an strategic location, next to the main church in the area, being a very frequented place.

It was a pleasure meeting you Mr. Mburu, I wish you the best luck in your business.

    Naroa Zurutuza
