My name is fred, from accra Ghana. I am a young hardworking, charismatic entrepreneur with an advanced diploma in applied insurance studies but has a strong passion for aquaculture, I live with my wife and son in ashale botwe. My parents are in Kumasi. My wife is a trader and my son is in nursery school. Both me and my wife plan to continue our education one day. We are Christians. In my free time, I volunteer in the church to visit and pray with ill members and also evangelize. When we are able to save enough money, we will return and further our education. Good Education is expensive in Ghana but I am prepared to pay for my son till university.
In 2010, i managed to acquire a 6x6 cage for tilapia farming with the help of a loan from a friend who used to work with a microfinance firm. I have hence paid of that amout but still need more money to grow the business. Through market analysis, direction and consultation with a contractor who is an expert in aquaculture I have been able to acquire certain skill and knowledge pertaining to my tilapia growing business which helps me to know the most economical way to stock my cage, when it is best to harvest and also the most patronized sizes for my desired target group. My major challenge so far is the availability of storage facility after harvesting pending sale and also swift reliable transportation from the cage site to the marketplace due the perishable nature of the fish. From this cage I am able to make about 400 cedis every month!
When I am given this loan, I will make down payment for a refrigerator freezer. I will have to top up though. This will mean I can harvest enough fish and store for sales and not keep them in the pond and increase the feeding expenditure. This will greatly help my business. And my fish will stay fresh at all times. Later I will buy a van and use it as supply transportation.
