About Me

Am Wamugunda Gakuo aged 26years.I live in Nakuru county in Shabab Estate in particular.Am a computer engineer by profession.I hold a higher diploma in computer engineering.I graduated 3years ago at Egerton university.I started an electrical and computer appliances business because that is where my passion lies.Being in such a venture i practice my profession and therefore dealing with my customers isn't a problem since my key to success is customer care which i value so much. Some of the earnings that come from my business are reinvested back and the rest is used wisely to cater for my family and other logistics. However my three years old business has been experiencing some challenges here and there especially competition and contraband products. But this as result has not affected my business greatly since i do enjoy a good customer base that has sustained my business because of the trust they have in my products and services. In addition to that,i co-own a rabbit keeping business with my sister back in my home county Laikipia.

My Business

My business is that of Electrical and Computer appliances, and rabbit keeping.I started an electrical and computer appliances business because that is where my passion lies.Being in such a venture is something i like doing and therefore dealing with my customers isn't a problem since my key to success is customer care. Some of the earnings that come from my business are reinvested back and the rest is used wisely to cater for my family and other logistics. However my three years old business has been experiencing some challenges here and there especially competition and contraband products. But this as result has not affected my business greatly since i do enjoy a good customer base that has sustained my business because of the trust they have in my products and services.MY being located in a strategic location has enabled its growth immensely. On a monthly scale am able to pocket KSH15,000-28,000 per month from my computer business.I started my Rabbits enterprise in the year 2011.Much has been said about healthy eating and economic sustainability of a healthy diet. The rabbit rearing business can achieve both results without much hustle. Research done shows that rabbit meat has far more protein and less fat than other meat. The space required to raise rabbits is small, their feed requirement and supervision is minimal and people have started embracing rabbit meat as a healthy alternative to other forms of meat. The rabbits multiply and mature very fast, and are ready for slaughter at three months. My intention of starting this business is also to inspire the young people in rural Kenya that they can become economically independent without necessarily going to look for work in urban areas. I am sure that with your help I can practically show these young men and women that it can be done. Having been in this kind of venture has inculcated some unique passion of earning a living which to many a people have continued to ignore the enterprise. From this business am able to provide for my Family and sustain the running and management of my enterprise. However having such an establishment will greatly help in repayment of the loan. Though few challenges are there, they don’t affect the practice since i have come up with a concrete ways to minimize risks by maximizing the profits. Also the demand for the Rabbits products is high because of their high nutritional value. I get a monthly profit of $200-350 from my rabbit rearing business. Therefore being in this business will enable the repayment of the zidisha loans without hustles.Am optimistic that this loan to greater level will help me to grow my business.

Loan Proposal

Dear lenders,

Thanks for your kind help through my previous Zidisha loans. I will use my fourth loan to build an additional rabbit house since i have bought a new breed of rabbit that has the capacity to mature fast and gain weight. This will cost me 350 dollars. The loan will also be of great help because i will be in a position to secure check up services(40 dollars) of at least once a month from a highly qualified veterinary specialist in the rabbits management.I will also use a portion of the loan (130dollars) to advance my rabbits diets that is buying the prescribed feeds that will stimulates their weight and improve the general health. This will reduce the risks of infections that causes deaths to my Rabbits and increase the profits earned from my business since i will be able to meet the requirement of my clients in terms of quality and quantity. My great expectations is that given the zidisha chance i will be able to maximize the potential in this industry.Am optimistic that this opportunity will enhance my progress.

Hi. I have a great concern on the interest being charged on my zidisha loan. First of all I received ksh13,000 less my loan amount which was one time contribution for Zidisha members. I have already paid ksh 45,160 and the remaining amount is ksh 32,025. This implies that i am paying my loan with over 80% of interest which is very unfair for a non profit making organization. Please correct the error because i have never seen such interest on any Zidisha member. I feel very much disappointed considering that i received ksh39,000 and am supposed to pay ksh77,185. I have even tried to reschedule to larger monthly payments but nothing changes.

    Hello Wamugunda,
Do you know what has happened to Kevin Momanyi, a borrower you invited? He has not made any payments for a long time.

Hi Zidisha team and lenders. I apologize for being late on my repayments. I am still committed to repay my loan in full and make Zidisha organization worthwhile.

I have therefore decided to reduce my weekly installments for a short while because i have been supplying rabbits to buyers and most of them do not pay in cash so it takes long for me to get liquid cash to repay weekly.

Hi lenders. Am very grateful for your support in all my zidisha loans both on peak and offpeak times. I used my fourth loan to build an additional rabbit house. I currently have 156 rabbits and am spending most of my resources in there feeding, hence the reason to reschedule my weekly installments in order for me to be comfortable while repaying without much straining.

I will readjust my installments as soon as i sell some rabbits.

    Thanks!!!

    Hi dear lenders,

It has been quite a while since we communicated. My rabbit business was negatively affected by an outbreak which led to loss of 15 rabbits so I had to strain in buying the right vaccines and seek vetinarian services to curb the infection which was quite expensive and at the same time manage to repay my installments as scheduled. But now I am glad to report that all my rabbits are very healthy, and I sold 30 of them last week at a price of $20 each so I look forward to repay the remaining amount in time.

    Thank you.

      Hi Wamugunda,
All businesses have their ups and downs. I hope you've got the infection under control now and you can gradually build up your stocks in time.
      Good luck for the future,
      Mark

    Hi Zidisha lenders,

I succeeded in my effort to reach Ian, and he told me that he failed to repay in time because his business needed at least a month to generate enough income. He pledged to repay the whole amount that is due in one installment. I advised him to do so and to immediately start to repay in weekly installments in order to maintain a good on time repayment record. I hope he repays soonest.

    Thanks!

    Hi my zidisha lenders,

I am happy that i managed to buy the rabbits in good time with my third loan from zidisha. However my business has faced a sudden challenge i.e there has been an infection in our area that has led to decrease in the number of my kits and even mature rabbits. I have incurred $70 for the services of a veterinary and medication.

I therefore have decided to reschedule my loan since i currently can not afford to be repaying KES2000 per week. I am positive that all will be well again and i will sell the rabbits as soon as they complete their medication and attain good weight.
