About Me

A passionate agribusiness man with interests in horticulture and poultry farming.it has taken a lot of hardwork and dedication to achieve some success in this sector.it requires patience and commitment to excel.it is after many trials and errors that I came to fully appreciate the agribusiness sector.I believe farming should be a passion, the need to nuture young seedlings to fruition needs more than capital, water or land.you must have a drive and the patience to succeed.in the end it might prove to be quite rewarding but passion comes before profit.I started with half an acre under irrigation but it has now grown to two acres now and still expanding.I learnt the skills and how to take care of the plant with time, here, experience is the best teacher.being born in a family of farmers also gave me an added advantage and hands on experience.I grew up in a family of maize and wheat farming and enjoyed working in the farm sometimes and helping around.the farm was vast and I started experimenting with small patches of vegetables and maize which to my surprise grew well.I then started growing maize during the school holidays which I enjoyed.from then on I wanted to shift to vegetables and fruits.in secondary I grew passion fruits and derived some pocket money from it and the trend went on to university.it was not until I had finished university that I started getting into serious irrigation of vegetables.its been a rewarding activity that I enjoy doing in my free moments.our land is situated next to a permanent river thus water for irrigation is readily available plus there is plenty of labour.insects and blight are some of the serious diseases that you must watch out for.

My Business

I grow hybrid tomatoes, onions and cabbages under irrigation and sell the produce regularly to suppliers.I also rear broilers and layers chickens and sell the eggs and meat to hotels, shops and individuals.vegetables are a staple food among the community so demand for it is always there.but timiming should be done so as to avoid harvesting when the supply is a lot because you will get low prices leading to losses.I grow tomatoes onions and cabbages rotationally depending on the demand and supply patterns ensuring there are crops on the farm at any time of the year.the profits are good especially when there is no rainfall since demand is at its highest and supply is low.I use the profits to continually grow the business by ploughing back profits into the farm for expansion.I also pay school fees and use the rest for day to day uses.the eggs and broiler chickens I sell to homes and hotels in the nearby town, some I use to supplement my diet.

Loan Proposal

I will buy hybrid tomato seedlings to plant.the quantity will be 50 grammes that costs kes 3500.the seeds are good in that they are resistant to weeds and drought.they also mature faster than ordinary seeds.
I will put the seeds in a seedbed and transplant after one month.irrigation and spraying for pests and rust will be done regularly.
I will offer employment to the local youth during planting, weeding, spraying and harvesting.the community will benefit by having affordable and readily available tomatoes.
I expect to harvest 40 crates in total and a crate sells for 1200 kes totalling 48000 making a profit of kes 20000.
