About Me

My name is Seline.I am 34 years old and a second born in a family of nine.I am married and a mother of three. My father was a cleaner while my mother was a house wife.We were raised in Kianda village of Kibera slums.Despite the many difficulties and challenges we faced while growing up,my father was able to give us at least the basic education.I have personally gone to college and is an employee of the government under the Teachers Service commission. The remuneration for teachers in Kenya is very poor and this explains the numerous labor actions seen in the sector.Since I am the sole bread winner in this family,a role I undertook when my father retired,it has forced me to look for ways and means of supplementing the strained income I receive from the government.I consequently started up an M-pesa business from a small loan I took from a teachers' SACCO. I have passion for education and so I sometimes find it difficult to let go of a bright student who would be otherwise forced to drop out of school due to lack of school fees.In my culture Education is viewed as an empowerment tool which is used to break the vicious cycle of poverty.I have helped many children not only through imparting knowledge and counseling but also by providing financial support whenever am capable.I love talking to people, giving young people sound advice that would help shape their lives. That's my hobby. My first born is a girl of nine years. She sees herself a neurosurgeon in future.Though the second born(4 years) also dreams of being a doctor am not yet sure whether she really understands what it entails.

My Business

As earlier stated,I operate an M-pesa shop.M-pesa is a mobile money transfer services.Through this services, the clients/customers are able to either deposit money to their phones which in turn enables them to send the money to whoever they wish to within the country or withdraw the money sent to them by others. When these transactions are made, the service provider pays me on commission basis, which means that my profit is determined by the number of transactions i make .I chose this business because many people who live in Nairobi or even other urban centers have their defendants living in the rural areas. This business is a solution to those who want to send money or withdraw the same.To do transactions that would eventually give better profit/revenue,a bigger capital base is needed.Am currently operating with a float of ksh.20000 which is the minimum required by the service provider(safaricom)this limits the transactions as i cannot transact any amount beyond this.I therefore get a profit of ksh.5000 per month and the proceedings are used to pay school fees for my siblings and children. jointly do this with my husband.

Loan Proposal
