About Me

My name is Susan John, born in Meru county around Mt. Kenya. I was born in a family of 6 where I am the fifth born. My parents were and still are small scale farmers. I went to primary and later secondary school in the same area.

I later enrolled for a diploma course in hair dressing. I later did a short course in computer applications. I later decided to relocated to Mombasa to live with my cousin. I secured a job at a hair salon in Mombasa town where I worked for one year. Using savings from this job, I was able to start my own beauty salon and this is what I am still doing.

I am hard working and honest person and these qualities have made me succeed in my business. I am also a strong member of my church where I serve as youth mentor.

My Business

I run a beauty salon where we cater for both men and women. This business doubles as a hair salon as well as a barber shop. I do many beauty services for women such as hairdo, hair treatment, facial, pedicure etc.

I serve a all types of clients from men who come for shaving and a large number of working women who like to look smart at their places of work. I occasionally serve tourists who come to holiday here in Mombasa.

To supplement my income, I also sell airtime vouchers and soft drinks such as drinking water and sodas. This business is quite profitable and self sustaining. I make an average $300 per month.

My dream is to open a hair and beauty training center where I will be able to train learners in this area of beauty. I want to use this loan as an entry point to Zidisha with an ultimate goal of getting funding to start the center in future.

My income is sufficient to service this loan comfortably.

Loan Proposal

The business I do has a cut-throat competition. For one to remain afloat, one needs a salon with good facilities so as to maintain and attract new customers. My salon is not at its best at the moment and given more credit, I will be able to upgrade it in a manner that I will be able to compete with high class establishments within town.

With this money, I will fit wall mirrors at a cost of $100, a barber chair for $120 additional washing sink at $50. I will spend the balance (if any) to buy small items that I need in my work. Thank you so much.
