About Me

My full names are Yvonne Odima . I am 27 years old. A married woman who is very honest, disciplined and hardworking person. After my high school education i was not able to go to college due to financial problems. But luckily I was able to secure a temporary job in an insurance company as a receptionist based on trust. I was able to go to college and attend classes as part time after work till i finished in the year 2012. My little salary was not sufficient to supplement my needs. I was struggling with hard economy in my country until one day i had to make a change in my life. With the little saving i had, i started buying second hand clothes at Gikomba market and resale them to my colleagues and friends in the office. Here in Kenya it is assumed that men are the ones to provide for their families but i really appreciate for micro-Finance like Zidisha which has really empowered women. My son says when he grows up he wants to be a farmer, have cows and own his dairy firm. He likes animals so much. I like traveling alot, listening to music and swimming.

My Business

I sell second hand clothes to my client and intent to open a printing and photocopying shop. Second hands clothes are always on high demand in our country since they are cheap and affordable. I came to realise that many people could not afford to buy brand new clothes because they are very expensive and others like unique things which can only be found in second hand clothes. We call them (Mitumba). Through my salary and the profit i made from my business i was able to save $600 and used the savings to by a photocopy machine. This idea came to me after i saw an opportunity in our offices. They outsource service provider who do supply them with photocopy papers and printing services since they don't have a printing machine. I saw that this was the best opportunity for me and requested for the services and i was given. I am currently in need of a computer machine costing $230 and atleast $40 for printing papers and colored ink for a start. My reason for me to adventure into this business is because in the future i want to do the branding business of printing T-shirts, caps and umbrellas for companies and be self employed. The profit i will make i will use it to add more stock to my clothing business since we are headed to peak season where sales are high. I will also use the profit to donate sanitary towels to needy girls as i always do. I am currently taking care of 5 needy girls from my village. I would wish to take care of more girls and atleast change their lives in the future.

Loan Proposal

As my clothing business is currently doing well i will use the profit that i make and the Zidisha fund to buy a computer of $230 and use $40 to buy printing papers and colored ink since my printer has only black colour at the moment. It will be of benefit if i also add few clothes of $15 to mix with the old stock since this is the season whereby clothes are really on high demand. I will use 10% of my profit to buy sanitary towels and donate them to children's home. My life has really changed since i was introduced to Zidisha . I was able to buy a photocopy machine through the profit i made from selling clothes.Through Zidisha i know my dream of owning a printing company in the future will be successful.

Hi lenders. I managed to talk to Yvonne this afternoon and she did let me know she will be rescheduling her payment amount to one which she can afford. She is grateful for the support that Zidisha lenders have given to her.

Hi lenders, this is Ian and I am Yvonne's mentor. I had the pleasure of talking to her today. Yvonne had been admitted to hospital and this affected her running of the business as she had no one to step in and run it for her. Now she's managing her condition and is recovering steadily and making good progress. She'll be catching up on her payments in the coming week.

I would wish to reschedule my loan payments from Kshs.1544 weekly to a minimum amount of Kshs.500 weekly for a period of one month due to financial constrain then later go back to my normal repayment schedule after i am back on my feet. I have been a devoted member of zidisha and i wouldn't wish my Lenders to see me as a defaulter. Your assistance will be of great value would and would wish to maintain good relationship with my Lenders for ever.

    Yvonne,

I wish I could loan money to you as I believe you'll continue to learn and grow your business. Unfortunately with Zidisha's new interface I can no longer lend less than $1.00 USD. I only have $0.22 available until I get more repayments from other loans. Hopefully I'll have more coming in over the next week and I'll be able to put at least a little towards your loan.

Don't give up hope and good luck!

    Yvonne,

A few items that you might look at. Since your loan request was for ~$440 USD, are the items listed in your loan proposal absolutely required? Is there a way to purchase fewer items at this point in time? ie, do you have enough ink to get started with what is in the copier presently? Do you need 5 reams of paper or can you get by with 1 or 2 just to start? Perhaps when you apply again for a loan you may be able to get fully funded at a lesser dollar amount.

As to advertising your loan, I searched on the forum for your name and 12 responses came back. Of those 4 were spammed to a single off-topic discussion that had nothing to do with raising funds for new loans. This can leave a bad feeling for many lenders as they may think you are too desperate and too inconsiderate. After review, only 4 of the 12 were actually on-topic and in the proper place on the forum. Please keep this in mind going forward.

Even with what I've said, don't give up hope. Starting and running a business is a learning process for all involved.

Thanks alot ccs36 for your concern. A lesson is learned from mistake. I will try to make some changes in my next loan application. Atleast am learning one thing at a time which is good for me. It took me 3 months to notice that there is a members forum on Zidisha page, and again i never knew that someone can respond to lenders feedback till one day i gave it a try.
