About Me

I am John A Otieno a commercial farmer in Angorom village,Teso south ,Busia county Western Kenya. I hold Bsc.Agricultural Economics degree from Egerton University.I had passion in farming and that is why decided to settle in commercial farming as a revenue generating venture.
From the earnings i have been able to expand my farm from 0.5 acres to 6 acre and I have a dream of making it 10 acres in the next two years. I am also planning to diversify into other ventures like poultry and mushroom farming.I am challenging other graduates to join agribusiness since its an equal opportunity employer and can help reduce poverty levels in the community.

My Business

I am commercial farmer farmer, currently engaged in dairy farming and production of high end horticultural value chains including, kale's,capsicum (green ,red and yellow), cabbages and cereals majorly millet production. The demand is quite impressive and rarely do i get surpluses in the farm,I grow my crops in open field and use money maker pumps from kick-start for irrigation I also have one small greenhouse and another big one ( I bought with zidisha loan)that i use for tomato production. Most clients prefer my products because they are high quality and fresh, they are also fairly priced. This gives me a competitive edge against my competitors.
I am also a dairy farmer and keep 3 jersey cattle for milk production. I get 70 liter of milk per day and use it for yoghurt production and supply 30 liters daily to a nearby hospital and 10 litre to an orphange.
my monthly revenues average is$1200. I use $400 as cost of production and make profits of $800 in a month.
I use my income to support my family, pay my masters fee.and I supply milk and vegetables to a nearby orphanage for free so that the kids in the orphanage can also feel good and well taken care of.

Loan Proposal

My name is John Otieno,I take this opportunity to thank you for funding my first loan. I was able to put up the poultry unit and its doing well.
I am requesting for a second loan to buy a watering pump for my horticulture farm so that i am able to irrigate my farm, since i have access to permanent water source.
The sukuma wiki (kale) i have planted are doing well ,only that i lack the energies to water them daily as a result my productivity has reduced. With the pump I will be able to water a bigger area area and increase my revenues significantly. The budget for the pump is $200. I will be very gratefully for your consideration. Thanks In advance
