Dear Mr Njoroge, I am very glad to hear from you and hope that things continue to improve for you. The proposed rescheduling of your repayments is no problem (for me at least), but I think you should notify Zidisha of this intention formally (if not done already) just to keep everything clear. Thanks, Ginoir

    September 30, 2012

Hello, my name is Andrew Weber and I am a Zidisha Kenya Client Relationship Manager. I am currently visiting Zidisha borrowers in and around Nairobi.

Recently I visited Zidisha borrower John Njoroge at his place of work in the Ongata Rongai village on outskirts of Nairobi. After battling sickness for the past 2 months, John is back to full health and committed to repaying his loan and operating his businesses with a renewed vigor. He initially requested the loan to start a car washing business, which he says is doing well right now. The loan allowed him to buy the proper equipment to get the business off the ground. The business was doing well enough that he has entrusted his partner to continue to operate it without him while he focuses on his lucrative new venture: reselling used glass bottles to local recyclers.

John buys large quantities of used, empty bottles at low price from restaurants, and in turn sells them to recycling agents at a profit, often double the price he paid for the bottle. With the initial success of this recycling business, and the continued profits from his car wash, John looks forward to repaying his current loan and taking out a new loan to aid his recycling business as soon as he can. While the recycling business has been successful so far, a new loan would allow him to buy containers or wagons to make transporting his bottles far easier. Until then he’ll continue to manually carry the sacs of bottles around town.

One other aspect of John’s life that has improved since his Zidisha lone is evident on this very profile page. John used part of the loan to pay for a computer class, where he has improved his computer skills to the point where he can interact with his lenders with increasing ease. Armed with new computer skills and two successful businesses, John’s life has improved greatly since receiving his first Zidisha loan.

    Hello Lenders,

My name is Vivien Barbier and I’m one of the Zidisha current client relationship interns for Kenya. Today, I visited John and his growing business.

I was very impressed by John and what he did with the money. He only received the money recently, but he already had hired one employee to help him to clean customer cars. He told me that the new machine that he is using allows him to wash a car in 25 minutes instead of 1 hour. Since his business is subject of rush hours, it is very important to reduce the washing time.

John seems to be very happy to see me and he is very thankful to the Zidisha community. He told me that his life was really changed by the loan and that without it he would never had the money to buy the compressor.

John is also attending a 1-hour course about computer everyday to learn how to effectively use a computer and be able to interact more easily with zidisha.org
