My sincere thanks goes to first the Zidisha team for the good opportunity given for me to obtain a loan with virtually interest free. Secondly I thank my lenders who granted such an amount for my business to grow. I bought baby diapers, minerals, soap sugar, milk and many petty items that attracted more customers to my shop. I realized some profits that aided in so many things, the greatest amongst the things is that I was able to pay my children's school fees with ease

Hi Emma! It is so nice to hear from you. Your suggestion is indeed brilliant, and I have thought about it. James would tell you that I would have no problem with the raw materials for sugar cane juice, as I live in a sugar cane producing area. He mentioned in his message of his sugar cane growing family in Kisumu area! Getting cane would be easy. Main thing I'd need is a cane pressing machine which I have looked around on aliexpress website, and pinpointed a versatile one that costs around 299$. The only expensive bit is shipping which costs 932$. So I require 1000$+ for that! Business premises in my town are a bit costly to rent, so I would avoid that. Still, I'd decided that if I venture into that, I'll have to do it on the street with a beautiful small cart and a canopy on top for shielding the sun (it gets real sunny in my town). I can scrounge around my savings for the cart, but I need to save more for the machine if I am to venture into that. Thank you so much for your wonderful idea Emma, and for supporting me all through. Everything is possible and I am certain that will be in our Meals on Wheels plan someday!

After reading your messages to & from James, just thought I'd make a quick suggestion :-) Obviously you know your market (& costs involved) much better than I do, so obviously feel free to disregard... But have you considered possibly selling Sugar Cane juice as well??? Just a suggestion I thought I would shoot your way :-) Always great hearing from you Caroline... Thanks for the updates, & glad to hear you're still just as chipper as ever :-) Your positivity is contagious. All the best hun :-) Emma.

Its my happiest moment that I am now through with my loan. I did my best in repayment of this loan in order to acquire a large one to embark on larger project. I used the previous loan to pay workers who did an excellent task. I also used part of money to transport sugarcane to the company. The loan has had a major positive impact in my life because all my children are now schooling at various levels of education and none has ever been sent home due to lack of school fees. Am very glad and would like to thank Zidisha very much.

Oh my dear James! To what do I owe such sweet and wonderful advice that otherwise no money could buy!? :-) I am so happy to hear from you James, and I am all smiles just thanking God for angels like you that walk among us. I indeed followed your advice, went around and sampled some people the food, and I must say the response was very warm. I look forward to confirmed orders in the near future, and definite growth. My greatest challenge was, and is, the traditional pattern of folks going to mainstream eateries for their meals, and only a handful resorting to my meals when they are broke and know that I can extend them some short credit (which some give trouble to repay - oh dear)! My cousins believe we will beat that lop-sidedness one day when we open our own food joint!! It is a funny idea he says we could start with, which he calls 'Meals on Wheels', a food truck!! I did the bread, though I aimed for 'bun-like', and they came out great! You'll see the pic too. I learnt of a few more ingredients that I could use next time I bake, like some stuff called 'bakerite'! :-) Still for now, I am trying real hard to follow your advice, and even got my cousin to work on some business cards, I will attach so you see how they look, and we are just waiting on sending them to a printer in Nairobi, since the locals ones in Kisumu are kind of expensive and would charge more than double what would be charged in Nairobi (around 0.03 cents per card) - you know that is a lot here, right? I am hopeful that I will get a big event opportunity soon, (like a wedding) and break through like you wish for me. I always believe that I can be bigger than my shortcomings and be a name of great mention one day, and you are right, it is why I have not contemplated marriage at this moment and I am in no hurry. The cooking venture was meant as a distraction from my miseries (what with dropping from school for lack of funds), but it is proving to be a blessing in disguise. Through this, I have come to know of other talents that I never knew I had, like a love for children (which I believe will lead to running a school someday), front office administration (I admire the ladies in the offices I visit :-)..haha) and singing. It is amazing how small things help one get to know them better, and I am so grateful that this forum gave me the ability to push on with my little dreams. Though a small time cook now, I know I can rise higher and be a lot more than I have ever imagined. With the nature of businesses in our area, where we tend to drift to where money is at a particular time, I believe the food business is an all year round business that I will work on for sure. Still, my love for being around children, and teaching them, got me talking to my cousins and God willing, we will set up a little nursery school that I could be at whenever I am free. That will be in preparation of sitting for my secondary certification exams next year, God willing! See how I have a tonne of things to do, James, to have run into marriage!! I like the smiling cupcake idea and it is just great!! Where do you get all these ideas from, hmmm! I will keep on smiling my dear James, and keep on working hard and seeking amazing advise from angels like you, because I just realize that I know so little, compared to the wealthy pool of ideas that you possess. By all means James, include me as your daughter! Why not!? I enjoy your letters and advice and they are very encouraging knowing that what I do is not in vain. Indeed I will seek a new loan once I clear this, and your advice is priceless. I was thinking of machines, like flour mixers, and or juice extractors, or even a rickshaw (we call them tuk tuk here), to help me move food from point to point as I am spending all my profits on public transport, but I am still undecided. I am praying to God for guidance. There's just more than I can say here, but it is alright, I will share some other day! Your sugarcane growing family in Kisumu must be living in Ahero area? Oh you have a big heart James! May you be abundantly blessed, with joy and good health and so much more! Nakupenda pia, bwana James :-)! P>S ; A slight edit on my business card as the email was not right. Sorry :-(
