Hi everyone! My name is Paige Klunk, and I am currently a Cultural Ambassador located here in Dakar. I wanted to write to give you a few updates about how Ameth’s activities are progressing.
I have known Ameth now for over a year, I first met him last summer while I was here in Dakar with Zidisha. He and I have become good friends, as he is always eager to share with me how his business activities are progressing. Even when I was home in the United States, he would sometimes send me pictures of his chickens as they were growing. Ameth is very passionate about animals, no matter whether it is chickens, quails, tortoises, fish, or even his two dogs. He always talks about animals with a big smile on his face.
Ameth raises the chickens on the third floor of his house. A small staircase leads you directly to the two bedrooms, which he has set aside for them. A brown tile covers the walls while the top of the two rooms are lined with blue cages. He keeps the chicks in the blue cages until they have grown big enough, after which he moves them down to the floor, which is covered with mulch. Lined with chickens, it is difficult some times to maneuver in and out of the rooms. The third floor, however, is not just the home for the chickens but for his two dogs as well.
With his second loan, Ameth was able to purchase 35 chicks at 17,500 XOF ($32), three sacks of food for 45,000 XOF ($90), medicine for 3,000 XOF ($6), transportation for the food 2,500 XOF ($5), and the mulch for the floor at 2,500 XOF ($5). Once the chickens were fully grown, he was able to sell each chicken for 2,500-3,000 ($5-$6). Since his second loan, he has been able to reap the benefits of 87,500 XOF ($175) each month as he been able to re-invest in his business. The benefits of the business have not only been financial autonomy for Ameth but it has given him financial structure to be able to advance his business.
When asked what the benefits of Zidisha have been for him, Ameth responded enthusiastically that it has been two-fold. He said first the loan has been able to make his activities more structured, as he has the financial engagement to repay at the end of every month. Secondly it gives him motivation and confidence to have big dreams for his business long term. Even though things are still kind of small, Ameth explained to me he wants to diversify. He has started experimenting with quail eggs. He has an old refrigerator he hopes to have fixed up soon to store the eggs.
Ameth’s passion for animals is what drives him to be successful with his activities. I hope I can only stop by again soon to see the continued progress of his activities!

Dear Lenders. I used my last loan to buy some trench coats which i was introducing into my business for the first time. Quite a number of customers have been visiting my shop since there are not many sellers of such type of clothes nearby. Am very grateful for your support and faith in my business. This money will help me to increase and diversify my clothing business. Since i deal with second hand cloths i intend to stock news ie shirts and trousers to capture market of the people who don't wear second hands cloths. this will increase my profit by 15% to 20%. I here by register my sincere thank from the first loan I received . It did alto of improvement into my business, I bought a new overclock machine and more materials for the business.
This made an Improvement by increasing the production of clothes I used to make per day from 20% to 50% this also made an increase of the my profit from ksh.200 to ksh. 1000 daily.
since being the first born in a family of 8 people I paid school fees to my young brother who is in high school.This had a very big impact into his studies since he stayed full time in school and last term he did very well by scoring an A(Plain)in his end term exam.
During the Easter holidays I rural home an I really had fun since we had chance to visit the beautiful sandy beaches,we swam and enjoyed ourselves.

once again i want to thank you for your contributions towards the growth of my business. my school is experiencing growth in every department especially the photocopy section which is a commercial activity to generate extra income for the school. because of your loan we have been able to aquire the lamination and binding machines and we want to add the sale of STATIONERY ( A4 REALM, NOTEBOOKS AND EXERCISE BOOKS, PENS, PENCILS , ERASERS ETC) as a way of expanding the business. i can assure you that the demand for these items in the school is very high and for that matter is economically viable business. due this we would need additional money to top up the little profit made from the photocopy section of the school to buy and stock these items.

Dear Lenders. I used my last loan to buy some trench coats which i was introducing into my business for the first time. Quite a number of customers have been visiting my shop since there are not many sellers of such type of clothes nearby. This has increased my profit margin with about 10%, and I use the extra profit to increase the stock of trench coats. The lifestyle of my family is gradually improving and we hope that it can only get better. Once in a while i take my family out, at times to Thompson Falls, a tourist site which is just a few kilometres from our local home.

To restock shop
Thank you for lending me the first time it was such a great opportunity to meet my clients need. I was able to deliver on time always because of the capital base i had. My earning have increased by at least 30 percent. I was also able to move into a new house. A self contained one I pay 6,000 Kenya Shillings rent now. I moved from a single room which was 4,000 Kenya Shillings. I would like to say that my life has improved so far. The new neighborhood that i moved into is really near to the bus stop. I used to walk 15 minutes to the bus stop, now I its only two minutes walk. I come to work always feeling more energized. It is also nearer to the church.
I spent the loan on purchasing the mugs for branding which i kept in stock to make my orders timely.
