Dear Lenders,

Massamba has become a vital member of the Zidisha family as he has been helping numerous prospective borrowers complete their applications. Today, I meet with Massamba at his shop in the HLM 6 neighborhood of Dakar, located right next door to the HLM Market, one of the bigger markets in Dakar which specializes in fabric. Massamba informed me that business has been going well for him, but his clients payments had been somewhat slow with the holiday of Tabaski. Nonetheless, Massamba had good news because just yesterday he received an order for around 100 school uniforms to be made. With the improved sewing machine station he was able to buy thanks to his Zidisha loan, he will be able to turn this order out soon with the assistance of a tailor he has hired to help him.
Massamba is a genuinely great person and I was able to enjoy the afternoon chatting with him in his shop. I was also lucky to meet his 2 little children, he sarcastically refers to his son Ibrahima as "the little terror" but on the contrary his children are full of joy and laughter. As a Client Relationship Manager intern in Dakar, I visited Massamba at his business last week. His shop is full of office supplies and other everyday use products. With printers, scanners, computers and an internet connection he can provide other business support services as well. He says, business is continuing normally but Massamba is anticipating with the presidential transition, an improved economic environment in the near future.

With the loan money he received, he has purchased a hot press to print words and images on t-shirts, hats, and mugs. Through Youtube videos and friends who have similar machines, Massamba has mastered the technique required to use the hot press. The next steps are to first, advertise his new services and attract clients to order in bulk. Lutte match fans (Senegalese traditional wrestling) and informal soccer teams are both target customers, Massamba says. Second, an additional machine must be bought to cut the letters and symbols that are pressed on the products. Currently, Massamba is using a friend's on contract.
